New Designs for La Touche Hotel site Greystones

A while ago Wicklow Council requested design changes to the plan to develop 26 houses and a small amount of commercial space on the site. The developer has lodged modifications and public submissions must be made by the 24th June with the decision due shortly afterwards.

As before the old building is being turned into 5 terraced houses, retaining the facades as is required as part of the Architectural Conservation Area. A footpath is now provided on the public roads and a number of changes to reduce the impact on Cliff Road and on neighbouring properties. These include, reductions in height, in terraces and in plot widths, increasing garden lengths and more screening.

‘The building is the most prominent in Greystones and has been a derelict eyesore for 10 years. It is important it is brought back into use with attractive buildings. I objected to the original impact on the seafront and the revised design has less impact. Unfortunately they have not agreed to my idea of a curved terrace to soften the impact’ said Cllr Derek Mitchell.
