Data Centres in areas of large Renewable Generation should get priority of Electricity

Areas with large Windfarms should get priority for electricity for Data Centres.

The amount of Data centres in Ireland is putting a strain on electricity supplies and renewable targets. There is talk of restricting new Data Centres though these bring big economic benefits to the country. Areas which have large windfarms should get priority for electricity for Data Centres in order to provide an economic benefit to compensate for disruption and encourage acceptance.  Windfarms are often controversial, because of the visual effect and this will help gain acceptance.

The Codling windfarm, off the coast from Greystones to Newcastle, is scheduled to be the largest in Ireland. That area, including the proposed Data Centre in Newtown, should get priority access to electricity for Data Centres in order to provide an economic benefit. Up to now most Data Centres have been built in Co. Dublin which has virtually no wind or solar generation.
