The internal traffic & parking is getting very congested in Greystones. The next Development plan review is due to be started soon and I am keen that the traffic issues & solutions are studied before the Plan is made as it is long overdue. I put in a motion at the last meeting and Council officials have now agreed to get a study done

I wrote a paper in 2018 on how to increase the frequency on the single track from 30 to every 20 minutes. This was based on partially double tracking the line, without the need for an expensive tunnel through Bray Head. This was ignored by Irish Rail but the NTA asked Jacobs Engineering to study how to do this. I received their report in May and they consider the idea is feasible, as is a 20 minute service and a quicker journey time. This is subject to some further analysis…
Greystones, population 20,000, is probably the largest town in Ireland without any public charging points. They were to be installed a few years ago but by the time Bord Pleanala had decided the objection was valid the scheme was finished and it was too late to move to a different site. A scheme to upgrade the ones in other towns will not cover Greystones, if you don’t have it, you cant get it, A Catch 22 situation! I have written to Minister Bruton and asked for this to be sorted…
Photo shows Cllr Derek Mitchell asking Minister for Environment Eoghan Murphy for funds. The Delgany to Blacklion Road upgrade is badly needed, with four large schools on it, and has been planned for 30 years. I have been frustrated trying to get it moving for a decade and brought this up with the Minister at the recent Fine Gael Ard Feis.
For years I have been pressing for the Delgany to Blacklion road to be built through. Initially planned in 1989 bits have been built since as part of estates. A planning application near St. Laurence’s School for 70 houses also plans a central part of the road. However it doesn’t meet the new road at either end and I am objecting to this ad hoc way of designing a road. The Council should design the rest of the road at the same time so it all fits together. I am…
A detailed plan to change & improve all Dublin Bus routes has been prepared. These are on www.busconnects.ie and public consultation ends on 14th September, with implementation towards end 2019. Minister Simon Harris, Alice O’Donnell and I are holding public information & consultation meetings about changes in this area. Please come along and give us your views; Greystones, Whale Theatre, Thursday 26th July 7.30 pm. Newcastle Community Centre, Tuesday 7th August 7.30 pm. Kilcoole, Forester’s Hall Wednesday 8th August 7.30 pm. These changes include: An around Greystones Service every 30…
I am going to an NTA briefing but am concerned that it is based on wrong information and will produce a worse service: Questions to NTA. 1. The existing DART frequency Bray Greystones is shown as 20 mins. In fact it is 30 mins. At the last briefing, a year or so ago, I specifically corrected this point, which was discussed, when you had it 15 min. It seems incredible that this important fact is AGAIN wrong and calls into question the whole procedure. 2. The proposed Greystones DART frequency…
Submission to Metrolink Consultation. Reserve Route to Bray. The Metro is a good idea, however the study is too short term and does not deal with possible future expansion to Cherrywood and Bray. The connection is envisaged as a LUAS, however this is likely to prove to not have enough capacity. A route should be reserved to bring Metro to Bray before Cherrywood is built. The existing route from Bride’s Glen to use the existing old rail bridge involves 2 very sharp bends which LUAS can take but a Metro…
Cllr Derek Mitchell has written a detailed paper proposing a tripling of train capacity on the Wicklow line by providing; an extra diesel service at peak hours; increasing the number of carriages from 4 to 8 and providing an extra DART from Greystones. Also express buses on the N11 from Arklow with Park n’ Ride & cycle parking there, Wicklow Town, Newtown, Kilpeddar and Glenview. These should copy the successful 84x and use the M11 and bus lanes into Dublin. Some should also go, at peak hours, to Sandyford and…
Procurement of Refurbished and New Diesel railcars. You are procuring improved carriages, I ask that you get them so that the doors in a limited number of carriages can be opened at short platform stations. These are normal in most other commuter railways but the IR carriages must open all doors on the train which means 8 carriages cannot be used on lines with short platforms (Kilcoole & Rathdrum for example). This will improve the service to Greystones and Wicklow by allowing longer 8 carriage trains in place of the…
