Mitchell delighted new Charlesland Secondary school to open 1 year earlier.

Posted by | Community Facilities, Delgany, Education, Kilcoole | No Comments

Delighted Minister for Education has brought forward the new Charlesland Secondary school opening to 2020. I have been lobbying on behalf of the many worried parents who were told they were 80th on the waiting lists for the 2 Greystones Schools.  I zoned a 5ha. site for this 15 years ago next to the sports facilities and I have been urging the Department to buy this for years. Currently it has temporary planning permission for use as a builders yard. I expect it will open in temporary facilities. This will…

Mitchell concerned at lack of land for manufacturing jobs

Posted by | Local Business | No Comments

I was asked by a manufacturing company, seeking 3 acres, to expand about where there are suitable sites in the area. Many employees live locally and they want to remain in the area. They approached the IDA about their 64 acre site in Greystones but were rebuffed. I feel it is wrong that manufacturing sites are not available as Greystones has a very low number of people working locally which forces so many to commute. I asked the Council to intervene with the IDA. However the IDA has said they…

Mitchell concerned about lack of Windfarm information

Posted by | Environment & Bray Head, Wicklow | No Comments

Snippets of information appear in the news about windfarms off the Wicklow Coast. I asked the Council to find out the details of various plans and approvals, partly to see if the area could obtain a benefit from this. At the July meeting officials said the Council was not responsible for any offshore permitting and it was quite difficult to find out the status of these. So far as I know in 2005 the Codling Bank scheme obtained a foreshore licence for 220 turbines 15km from the nearest point, Greystones…

Commercial Fishermen & Greystones Harbour. Meeting Notes. 18/7/19

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

Options. North Pier. Access problems for commercial vehicles and 600 residents, and safety on pier. 12 residents have written complaining of danger and intimidation and want to be represented. South pier. Enough space? Reconfigure boatyard? Need for subsidy to replace income, truck access through children launching? Alter pier? Might work. Placing a pier/pontoon out from the narrow slipway in the public harbour. On Thursday 18th July Councillors met fishermen and the marina operators, Sisk, Glenveagh, Council staff and Bord Iasce Mara. 2 representatives of Marina Village were waiting outside the…

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

On Monday the Councillors met the 3 fishermen. And on Thursday met them and the marina operators, Sisk, Council staff and Bord Iasce Mara. Options. North Pier. Access problems for commercial vehicles and 600 residents, and safety on pier. 7 residents have written complaining of danger and intimidation and want to be represented. South pier. Enough space? Reconfigure boatyard? Need for subsidy to replace income, truck access through children launching? Alter pier? Might work. Placing a pier/pontoon out from the narrow slipway in the public harbour. Now to be investigated…

Commercial Fishermen & Greystones Harbour: Issues

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

Considerable commercial vehicle traffic including oil tankers on a 24 hour basis in a dense residential area with narrow footpaths designed as a residential cul de sac. Fishing HGVs are driving dangerously (including turning) where many, including children, are hauling dingies & canoes across a path & launching. 2 children were almost run down in June. The North pier is too narrow, 7m, to allow separation of pedestrians and commercial vehicles. Any items left on the pier will be a serious trip hazard given the big distance to fall. The…

Mitchell against any further rezoning in Greystones

Posted by | Greystones, Kilcoole, Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

I will be voting against any further rezoning in Greystones or Kilcoole in the next Development Plan. They are building everywhere but the road and transport improvements have not happened. In 2015 I proposed, at a Council meeting on the Development Plan, that this expansion should be dependent on the N11 and Public Transport being improved. This was heavily defeated and only Cllr. Grainne McLoughlin (FG) of the 6 Local Councillors supported this. The transport chaos that is happening is a direct result. Most Councillors don’t seem to understand the…

Mitchell wants plan for Greystones Greenroute

Posted by | Community Facilities, Delgany, Greystones | No Comments

I am calling on the Council to produce a plan for the Greenroute along the Three Trout Stream  from the sea to Delgany. This should form an attractive walk and has been an objective for decades. There are various suggestions that individual developments will produce sections of it. An overall plan dealing with lighting, security, biodiversity etc. is needed so that it joins up in a coherent way. I am asking the Council to produce this plan so that each section which is developed fits in to a plan.

Greystones/Kilcoole infrastructure suffers as Development Levies spent elsewhere

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones, Kilcoole | No Comments

The Councils Capital Budget for the next 3 years was discussed at Mondays meeting. Most is spent on housing and most funds come from Government. €10m comes from Levies on Development which is spent on Roads and Amenities. My concern is that they are building everywhere in Greystones & Kilcoole, probably 800 homes at the moment, and there is an urgent need for roads, paths and amenity facilities. However the Plan only allocates 4% of road spending and 7% of Amenity spending to the Greystones area even though at least…

Greystones public park started but paths muddy

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones | No Comments

Cllr Derek Mitchell welcomed the developer starting work on the public  park, north of the marina, but the Cliff Walk path is very muddy as a result. Both through the site where the trucks cross & along the path.  I have asked the developer and Council to urgently make a better temporary surface in view of the many people using it. The developer has quickly said he will clean the crossing and will keep it clean after heavy machines have crossed. These will mostly remain in the north area so…
