Mitchell welcomes windfarm survey vessels to Greystones. Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municipal District Derek Mitchell welcoming the skipper and engineer of The Fastnet Pelican to Greystones Harbour. They have been surveying cable routes to shore for the Codling Windfarm for the last 6 weeks. This information will form the basis of the licence application for the windfarm. The crew of 6 have been staying locally. We need to urgently save carbon and a windfarm 14km out to sea is a good way of doing that. The turbines will be visible from…

Mitchell does not want to delay Greystones/Kilcoole Development Plan

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

There is a move to delay finalising the County Development Plan because of lack of zoned land in some villages. The Greystones Plan will take 2 further years to prepare, after the County Plan is finalised, and was out of date in 2019. ‘They are building everywhere in Greystones and a plan for infrastructure to cope with this is urgently needed. I don’t want the Greystones/Kilcoole Plan delayed’ said Cllr Derek Mitchell Cathaoirleach Greystones Municipal District.  The same probably applies in Newtown, Wicklow Town and maybe Bray

Letter to Commercial Fishermans RepresentativeCommercial Fishing in Greystones In order to find a resolution to this issue I wrote to you offering to host a meeting between the Harbour Master Marina Operator (HMMO), his formal title, and the 2 licensed commercial fishermen in order to try to resolve outstanding matters. I feel that direct discussion to resolve the issue is better than the legal route. Over 1,000 people are using the new harbour in boats, at least 9 people have jobs dependent on those boats, and all, except the 2…

Mitchell urges urgent action to Reopen Cliff Walk

Posted by | Press Release, Uncategorized | No Comments

The Cliff Walk from Bray to Greystones has been closed since late February due to the cliff collapsing, at the Greystones end, following heavy rains. This erosion has been going on for ever though increased rain intensity from Global Warming has made it worse. The Council engineer has proposed a short term solution of moving the walk back from the Cliff edge to by pass the worst area. This involves negotiating with landowners and should start immediately. I am urging this to happen as soon as possible as the walk…

Concern about adverse visual impact of proposed Dublin Array Windfarm

Posted by | Environment & Bray Head, Greystones, Press Release | No Comments

This extends from Dun Laoghaire to Greystones and will have an adverse effect on Greystones, Bray Head & the Cliff Walk. The huge Dublin Array turbines are to be close to shore, 9 Km from the coast and will produce about 600MW. The photomontages of this are on their site https://dublinarray.com/   until 20th November and they are seeking feedback. I urge people to view this and give their views. This is close to the proposed Codling Windfarm which is less prominent, as it is further offshore, even though it generates…

More detailed aspects of 2 of the large buildings impact on nearby homes and possible amendments. Additional planting to enhance and protect…

Offshore Windfarm progress welcome but concern about visual impact of Bray & Kish Bank ones

Posted by | Environment & Bray Head, Greystones, Local Work, Press Release, Wicklow | No Comments

I welcome today’s announcement that 7 projects are decided as Relevant Projects to move forward to the next consent stage. We need to use the wind resources to save carbon. However I am concerned about the visual impact of the Bray & Kish Bank one. The development of a large windfarm with a smaller visual effect, well out to sea, should take priority over a small one with a larger visual effect. There should be a limit to the visual effect permitted in towns. In 2005 the Codling windfarm obtained…

Irish Rail refuses extra Wicklow/Wexford train

Posted by | Bus/Train, Press Release | No Comments

Irish Rails Acting Chief Executive, Jim Meade, has written to Wicklow County Council refusing to run an extra rush hour train. Councillor Derek Mitchell said ‘The N11 is jammed and the rail line virtually empty because of the poor service. For example Carlow, has 4 times as many people using the train as Wicklow even though it is well outside the Dublin area and also on a single line track’. At Cllr Mitchell’s suggestion the Council was asked: to lobby transport authorities to ensure that 8 of the carriages resulting…

Tender documents have been issued and the site acquisition is expected to be finalised shortly. It is anticipated that the project will commence construction in Quarter 3 2018. The Department is aware that Kildare Wicklow…
