Bus times to Dublin Airport from Greystones as long as from Belfast!

Posted by | Bus/Train, Greystones, Local Work, Press Release, Transport | No Comments

We need to encourage people to take Aircoach to Dublin Airport instead of the car. The TFI app shows that it takes 1hr 39 mins from Greystones. Also as it goes through very congested parts of Dublin so one has to allow extra time when catching a plane. The bus used to be much quicker & more reliable when it went across the Toll bridge directly to the Airport Tunnel. Many have transferred from the bus to the car because of this, the opposite of what needs to be achieved. Dublin…

Council approves funding for Dr. Ryan Park, Chapel Road & Greystones Enterprise Centre

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

The County Council has approved the 3 year Capital Investment Plan. I’m delighted that it includes a budget of €50,000 for improvement works to Dr. Ryan Park which has been neglected for decades and has anti-social issues. It should be an attractive location. The Chapel Road, Greystones cycle & road scheme is included at €16m, which is badly needed to cope with the many new houses west of Greystones. Also included is an indicative €8m for the partially built Enterprise Centre/Hub near Hawkins Wood. Greystones has virtually the lowest percentage…

Greystones needs an Artistic hub

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

There are many interested in creative arts and it needs to be fostered in the rapidly growing community. A group of well-known artists has  proposed a multifunctional space for artistic expression such as workshops, education, an exhibition and gallery facility, creative programming and engagement with the community. This would provide a valuable resource for artists and the general public for many arts and crafts disciplines. ‘I would like to see this happen and I think it would fit in well on the hotel site. It could potentially provide a working…

New Housing Estates left without crèches

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

New housing estates have to have a certain number of crèche spaces depending on their size. However developers are leaving building them till last and house buyers have to go elsewhere to get a place which is awkward for them and adds to traffic congestion. Glenheron in Greystones, built by Cairn, has been occupied for 5 years but the crèche has not been built, never mind opened. The children will be past the crèche stage by the time it is opened! This is not fair on parents who both have…

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

Exploratory site works have started on the Greystones Media Campus which received Planning Permission a year ago. Once fully developed, the state-of-the art Greystones Media Campus will be Ireland’s largest studio complex offering 14 sound stages for use by domestic and international production companies. ‘The Campus will contribute to the creation of many jobs and reduce the reliance on commuting though it will be sad to see those field go’, said Cllr Derek Mitchell (FG)

Mitchell welcomes Hotel proposal for Greystones

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

Wicklow County Council is to look for bids to build an hotel and some other buildings such as apartments on land beside the Park n’ Ride site in Greystones. I welcome this and have long sought an hotel in Greystones. The Council outline plan suggested a 75 bed one, though I think it should be larger, have conference facilities and provide some extra space to add to the 450 Park n’ Ride spaces. The plan also suggests some apartments could be built and preserves many of the trees. The HSE…

Council passes Budget. 2 extra staff for Greystones.

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

On Monday 28th November the Council passed the budget unanimously without increasing the Commercial Rates as was originally recommended. A number of adjustments were made to some figures in light of better estimates. The Budget also includes 2 extra staff for Greystones as a result of a review of driver numbers. I analysed the figures and complained for years that there weren’t enough staff to cope with the rapid growth in Greystones and last year voted against the budget. The street cleaning machine has remained in the depot as there wasn’t…

Work on Greystones DART increase needs to start now

Posted by | Greystones, Press Release | No Comments

I am concerned that consultation on the work to increase Greystones DARTs by 50% was supposed to start in 2022 but nothing is happening. I have asked the Council to get the National Transport Authority to start now. In 2018 I produced a plan to partially double track the line to Bray and a subsequent Jacobs report confirmed its feasibility. But nothing is happening!
