Concern about adverse visual impact of proposed Dublin Array Windfarm.
Shorten it by 10Km.
This extends from Dun Laoghaire to Greystones and will have an adverse effect on Greystones, Bray Head & the Cliff Walk. The huge Dublin Array turbines, at 300m 50% higher than Poolbeg chimneys, are to be close to shore, 9 Km from the coast. The photomontages of this are on their site https://dublinarray.com/ until 20th November and they are seeking feedback. I urge people to view this and give their views.
This is close to the consented Codling Windfarm which is less prominent, as it is further offshore, even though it is the largest Irish one, generating twice as much power. The Dublin Array photomontages should be changed to include all windfarms off the coast. The combined visual effect is described as ‘adverse’ and ‘significant’ from Greystones. The whole seascape horizon will be windmills. There is also no economic benefit for Greystones.
The Dublin Array should be shortened by 10km so the southern end is at the north side of Bray Head thus breaking this long line of turbines off Greystones & Bray Head.
We need to save carbon but the development of a large windfarm with a smaller visual effect, well out to sea, should take priority over a small one with a larger visual effect. There should be a limit to the visual effect permitted in our towns and attractive coasts. The present consent system does not properly asses this. I have lobbied to get proper visual assessments included. It is also necessary for, Greystones, the nearest coastal area to the Codling to benefit and the new process must include that.
In the UK only small turbines are allowed from 13km offshore, Germany 30km and USA 40km. The scale of effect is considered closely related to the width of turbines across the horizon, hence the Dublin Array should be shortened by 10km.
