Mitchell pleased Education Department to Review Primary Enrolments

Parents are concerned that a number of primary pupils don’t have places for this September. I asked the Department to look at this as I am concerned about both the long and short term school capacity. I received a hopeful reply:

The building project for Greystones Community National School is currently at advanced architectural planning. Tender documents have been issued and the site acquisition is expected to be finalised shortly. It is anticipated that the project will commence construction in Quarter 3 2018.

The Department is aware that Kildare Wicklow ETB, who is Patron of Greystones Community National School, lodged a planning application with Wicklow County Council for two temporary classrooms to facilitate additional enrolments in September 2018. The Department understands that a decision on the application is due on 16th April.

The Department is currently engaging with the primary schools in Greystones relating to junior infant enrolments for September 2018.

Some 15 years ago I, together with other Councillors, rezoned land in Charlesland for the Primary School and also for a Secondary school. It amazes me that the land transfer is not complete but it seems to be moving forward. I have asked the Department to let me know how the review of 2018 enrolments is going.
