Press Release
Mitchell wants to ensure that Greystones gets the money raised by the Household Charge
The Government has introduced the huge changes to Councils in a Bill in the Dail. This abolishes the 4 Town Councils in Wicklow and replaces them with Municipal Districts of the County Council reducing the number of Councillors.
Greystones (including Kilcoole, Delgany and Newcastle) will have 6 County Councillors instead of 9 Town Councillors, 4 of whom are County Councillors.
I am concerned to ensure that the Greystones area gets a proper percentage of spending on roads and all other facilities. Most of the Councils income will now come from the Household Charge and Rates and I want to ensure we know the income and expenditure within each District. It is important to know that the money raised in an area is spent in that area.
I have asked Deputies Andrew Doyle and Simon Harris to ensure that the Bill includes this accounting provision.
