I disagree with recent moves by Senators to keep the Senate. I strongly support Fine Gael policy which is to hold a referendum to abolish it this year. As a small country we don’t need a second chamber. We need to cut out many sections of bureaucracy to make the country work better and abolishing a high up institution such as the Senate sets an example to other bodies.

 

Second chambers have a use in larger countries which are geographically diverse but most small European countries do not have a second chamber.
