Mitchell welcomes Glen O’ Downs road safety improvements

A €90,000 grant has been announced for road safety improvements on the Northbound lane of the N11. There have been a number of accidents on the bend recently with cars ending up in the river. Cars are probably speeding here but road improvements will help.

The bend was designed to be sharper than normal for this standard of road in order not to put a large concrete retaining wall in the Glen Nature Reserve. This allowed the present attractive grass slope retaining structure. However I believe the bend should have been cambered more steeply to compensate for the sharper bend. I will press for this to be done in future but it is likely to cost much more than the grant.
