Cllr. Mitchell demands Stephen Donnelly T.D. supports Tourism

Posted by | Community Facilities, Environment & Bray Head, Greystones | 562 Comments

I am disturbed that he is issuing wrong information on the Cliff Walk which will lessen the number of tourist coming to Greystones. The Cliff Walk is popular and walkers use the restaurants. Most T.D.s support the businesses in their area and I have written to him to ask him to withdraw his press release. He stated that ‘he heard there were plans to wind the Cliff Walk in a circle back to Bray, bypassing Greystones’ This is the opposite of what is being done as the Council has recently…

Mitchell Welcomes Harbour Progress

Posted by | Harbour | No Comments

The harbour developers are asking anybody interested in a marina berth to a meeting in the Beach House on Wednesday the 14th March 7 pm. They will present a plan to put 56 berths in this Summer and will talk about the facilities to be provided if there are enough people who commit to using it and paying the fee! Anybody who may want a berth should come along. It is hoped that the Sea Scouts, Rowers, Anglers, Sailors and Divers will occupy their compounds in April. The Council is…

Mitchell asks Minister for Justice to Ensure Fines Collected

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

About half of fines are not collected. This is a fraud on compliant citizens who pay fines on time and it damages the Justice System. At a recent meeting I asked the Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, to introduce a system of deducting unpaid fines from Wages and Social Welfare. It makes no sense for the Government not to be able to collect fines while paying people on a weekly basis. The Minister said that he would introduce legislation in the Autumn to enable fines to be deducted. The previous…

New Signs on N11 Welcome in spite of Name Controversy

Posted by | Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

Recently the National Roads Authority has put large new signs up on the North section of the N11. These now have junction numbers, are easier to read and safer if people crash into them as the lattice work supports will give more. I welcome these improvements especially the Junction numbers which will help direct strangers. There has been controversy over naming the junction to ‘Glenview’ as there is no such place. However the function is to direct motorists and it was felt that the proper names of the area such…

GP Out of Hours Service in Bray and Greystones a Priority 2012

Posted by | Community Facilities | No Comments

A Priority Development for 2012 is to establish a GP Out of Hours service in Bray, Greystones and Tallaght. This was announced at Tuesdays meeting of the Regional Health Forum which I attended. I very much welcome this as many people have been very concerned at the service provided from a long way away as the drivers were not always familiar with the area and English was not the first language of many of the Doctors. At a time of substantial cutbacks I am glad that this service, which is…

Public Rights of Way need new legal standing

Posted by | Community Facilities | No Comments

The Courts have ruled that there is not a Public Right of Way on Mr. Walkers land in Enniskerry. This has taken 8 years and cost a huge amount of legal fees. There needs to be a simple system to establish and maintain these instead of the present system of uncertainty and high legal fees. In 1950 England and Wales put through laws to get these listed and imposing a degree of responsibility on Local Authorities to maintain and signpost them. We need similar legislation here so that these are…

Patience needed to get Harbour Completed.

Posted by | Harbour | No Comments

In spite of the protests of GUBOH the best way is to work on each of the issues to get completion. Their protests disguise the fact that we already have the best Community Harbour open in Ireland. Their demand to set an end of February is not sensible and will delay completion. I have spent 12 years pushing the project forward and at all times progress has been achieved by basing proposals on Engineering and Financial facts, not on dreams. In contrast the GUBOH people demanded that we built a…

Cllr. Mitchell welcomes progress on Coast Guard Station

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

Building the Coast Guard station at Greystones new harbour has been delayed 3 years by bureaucratic wrangling. On Monday the Minister of State for Finance, Brian Hayes T.D. met Greystones Town Council, Simon Harris, Andrew Doyle and Billy Timmins T.D’s at the harbour. He undertook to clear these issues and ensure that an invitation to Tender was issued in 2012, so that building would proceed in 2013 once the expected Coast Guard funding was in place. ‘I welcome the commitment to sorting this out; this will help in completing all…

Septic Tanks. Fianna Fail should be called the ‘Turd’ Party

Posted by | Local Work | No Comments

I congratulate Minister for Environment, Phil Hogan T.D. for establishing a licensing system for septic tanks. Neighbours and the Community have a right to know that their water and the groundwater are not being polluted by septic tanks. FF Deputy Leader Eamonn O’Cuiv TD, having failed to sort this out for 2 years after a European Court judgement, is now going around whipping up a septic tank campaign full of wrong facts and ‘crap’. FF should be known as the ‘Turd Party’ for supporting septic tank pollution. The campaign says…

DART information signs cause confusion

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

The illuminated signs in the DARTS saying which direction it is going are wrong about a quarter of the time. This causes great confusion to tourists. I have written to Irish Rail get them to correct the signs or turn them off. Last night about 10 tourists were about to get off a Howth train, because the sign said it was going to Greystones. Fortunately I overheard them and told them the sign was totally wrong. It is ridiculous to have totally wrong information displayed.
