Today Sisk announced that it has agreed with its partners Park Developments and their bankers NAMA that Sisk will take ownership and control of this project. The land side of the development has stalled with the financial crisis and with NAMA’s involvement.

Mitchell Welcomes Planning for Footpath on Sea Road, Kilcoole

Posted by | Community Facilities, Kilcoole | 3,275 Comments

At a meeting on Monday the Area Engineer announced that he is to try to design a footpath on Sea Road, Kilcoole. The National Roads Authority is keen to provide footpaths to stations and should be willing to fund it if there is enough land for it. 3 years ago when the Kilcoole Plan was being prepared I pushed hard to get a path included in the plan as people should be able to walk safely to the station and the beach on this busy road. I am pleased there…

Mitchell welcomes Greystones Cycle Lane Approval

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones | 11,820 Comments

On Monday Wicklow County Council approved the two new cycle lanes from the Harbour to the South Beach and one from the Harbour to the North entrance to the town. These provide cycle lanes, improved footpaths and road surfaces. There is also a roundabout at Blacklion to replace the traffic lights and this is expected to reduce traffic congestion. Following some requests by Councillors at the last Town Council meeting changes were made including some extra parking at Blacklion. The section along the seafront to the harbour is funded and…

Greystones Harbour Changes approved by Bord Pleanala with changes

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | 4,595 Comments

Sispar and Wicklow County Council applied, in 2010, to increase the number of houses and apartments by 32, to change some apartments to houses and change the car parking arrangements, increasing them to 1,002 of which 316 would be public. Following an objection this has now been approved subject to deleting a few apartments and providing underground parking instead of the extra surface parking. ‘I welcome the decision as it removes uncertainty and helps to move the project forward. However I do not expect construction of the residential area to…

Dublin Bus agrees to look at some service improvements

Posted by | Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

On Tuesday Dublin Bus met with Greystones Town Council and discussed the recent bus changes. They were pleased with the increased use of the 145 and 84X and Councillors reported few complaints in Greystones. ‘I said the 84x was a good service but asked them to try to provide a return service as the busses were running empty back to the depot. They agreed to consider this. I also asked for a timetable for the introduction of Real Time information signs to Greystones and a commitment to provide them in…

Stephen Donnelly T.D. should check facts first

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

Access to Greystones North Beach is currently available from a path North of the harbour and has recently been improved by Sispar. The North Beach does get cut off by high tide but this has often been the case in the past. Access from the old Gap Bridge was closed a decade ago before the harbour construction started, by fencing, because of the erosion. Donnelly’s statement that there has always been direct access to the sea on the entire North Beach is not correct. Over the past century the severe…

Mitchell Welcomes Church Road resurfacing

Posted by | Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

The Council is to resurface Church Road in Greystones. This has been full of holes at the edge which means cyclists have to swerve into the traffic line to avoid them. Also the speed bumps have disintegrated. ‘I regularly cycle along it and have been pressing for something to be done for a year. We need to encourage more cycling and this will make this busy road safer’

Marina held up by legal Action

Posted by | Harbour | No Comments

Sispar announced at Tuesdays meeting of Greystones Town Council that work on opening the marina has been held up by someone threatening to take an Injunction if work starts. It had been expected that the marina would open in early 2013 following the design and installation of pontoons. A packed meeting of people who wanted berths was held in March 2012 and a follow on meeting was due in May and this has now been postponed until the legal issues have been resolved. They have agreed to grass over most…

Increase in 84x busses Welcome

Posted by | Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

Dublin Bus has issued new timetables with effect from 27th May. The main change is that the 84 will now go to Blackrock instead of UCD. I asked them to increase the good and fast 84x service to provide a connection from Newcastle/Kilcoole to UCD and am pleased they have now provided 2 non rush hour services from Newcastle. Overall the number of busses from Newcastle will increase from 21 to 27 though some 84’s will terminate at Bray DART Station. I am asking Dublin Bus to get the 84x…

Mitchell Concerned that Large Cherrywood Development will produce N11 Chaos

Posted by | Community Facilities, Wicklow | No Comments

Mitchell concerned that the large Cherrywood development will result in N11 Traffic Chaos. A large Shopping Centre is being planned for Cherrywood together with more offices and apartments. The Shopping Centre is 50,000 sq. m. Just a bit smaller than Dundrum. Already much of Wicklow people’s shopping is being done in Dundrum and Carrickmines. This will add to that and further congest the overcrowded N11. There is no plan to upgrade the N11 and the Luas to Bray has been indefinitely postponed. ‘If this is approved then the N11/M50 must…
