Charlesland and Kilcoole left out of new Bus Information System

Posted by | Charlesland/Eden Gate, Kilcoole, Transport M50/N11, Uncategorized | 616 Comments

A new bus information system is currently being trialled in Dublin Centre. Once tested and live it will be spread out to the suburbs. However only 13 locations are being considered for North Wicklow, way below the percentage of population in the area. ‘We seem to get ignored in Regional Initiatives and it is essential that we get more of these displays’. These signs show the next 4 busses arriving at the bus stop and the time to arrival, similar to DART stations. They are useful especially further out where…

Pension Levy Unfair on Private Sector

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

The 4 year ‘temporary’ pension levy has been introduced in an unfair way. The people with the best pensions, Ministers, Senior Public Servants and Judges pay nothing while those with the lowest Direct Contribution pensions pay more. This is very unfair on private sector workers most of whom are on DC pensions. Those with the second best pensions, Direct Benefit, will have the levy cost paid by the employer. DB schemes are mostly in the Semi- States and Banks as only they can afford them. Taxation should treat all workers…

Fianna Fail has destroyed the economy

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

Greystones Fianna Fail Mayor has criticised FG for not providing jobs already and for Commercial rates increases. Where has he been in recent years and during the election? In Government for 10 years FFs mad policies have destroyed our economy and jobs, it will take FG the best part of a decade to sort it out and make Ireland competitive again. Commercial rates have risen because FF cut the grant to Wicklow County Council to replace domestic rates. Business is now contributing 90% of the amount that the Government does…

FF Budget attacks low paid workers more than Social Welfare, this is daft.

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

The Budget means that a worker on the current minimum wage loses €17 a week, twice as much as those on Social welfare. This is a huge disincentive to work and is totally wrong. The lowering of the tax bands and the Universal Social Charge in combination severely attack the low and medium paid, destroying jobs. In contrast FG’s proposals reduced tax on the low paid, to encourage work, by leaving the tax allowances and reducing VAT on labour intensive services such as repairs, hairdressing, hospitality. This would be funded…

Derek Mitchell welcomes Fine Gael policy of completely Re-Inventing Government. Fine Gael has issued a series of deep reform policies for the Public Service, the biggest change since the State was founded. This includes: Abolishing the Senate and 20 TD’s, Abolishing 145 specified Quangos to reduce the burden on business and cut costs, Cutting the Core Pay of 650 Senior Civil Servants and replacing failed ones, Recruitment of some senior ones from outside the public Service due to the mess the Depatment of Finance has made of the ecconomy, Increasing…

Derek Mitchell very pleased with Harbour Open Day on Saturday. A large number of Greystones Residents visited the Open Day on Saturday morning, helped by the good weather. Sispar staff explained what was happening and the features of the harbour. I spoke to many and they were impressed by the scale of what has been achieved, though many are keen to have the hoardings down as soon as possible.

Minister Dumps on Wicklow to prevent incinerator in own Constituency

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

Minister for Environment, John Gormley, of the Green Party, has produced a plan to radically change waste management in Ireland by using many new levies and taxes to move from incineration to Mechanical and Biological Treatment (MBT). He has long stated that he will not accept the proposed incinerator in Ringsend, in his constituency, and this policy change is designed to stop that. As Dublin’s dumps have now filled up the waste will now have to be dumped in Wicklow (Ballynegran) and Kildare.

Richard Bruton should be FG leader.

Posted by | Priorities, Uncategorized | No Comments

I believe that Richard Bruton should be the FG leader.. The next election will be fought on who is best to get us out of the economic hole that FF has got us into. He has the most credibility on economic matters of any TD in the Dail. I have immense respect for Enda Kenny and for the hard work he has put in revitalising FG but many people tell me they don’t like him as leader. As politicians we must listen to peoples views.

Greystones Harbour Latest Update

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour, Local Work, Priorities, Uncategorized | No Comments

The December photo shows how far work has progressed with about 15 machines working on it. The marine works, including 2 public slipways, should be complete in June this year. The harbour will not open to the public this year as considerable work must be done on the land side. The walls are solid blocks protected by rocks and then antifers placed on top. These concrete castings appear white in the photo and their function is to break up the waves before they hit the wall. During the heavy storms…
