Mitchell demands roads are improved before Lidl store is expanded

Posted by | Greystones, Local Business, Transport | No Comments

Cllr Derek Mitchell has objected to the planning application by Lidl to expand their store in Greystones. ‘the traffic in the Blacklion area is very congested, some people tell me it can take an hour to get from Hillside to Bray, and the long delayed plans to improve the roads must be completed before this store expands and adds extra traffic’. The Council has been planning the Blacklion to Delgany Road since 1989 but it is a long way from completion. Also planned for many years are improvements to the…

New DART Timetable will provide worse service to Greystones

Posted by | Transport | No Comments

The introduction of the new ’10 minute’ DART service has been delayed by the drivers. ‘However when implemented it will increase the journey time, DARTs and diesels, to Wicklow South of Bray by 12% and will not provide a single extra train service. No proper explanation for the increased time has been given by Irish Rail even though the service is already very slow’ complained Cllr Derek Mitchell. This is according to the Draft consultation timetable issued in December and later discussions with Irish Rail. No final timetable has been…

Delgany to Blacklion Road. Councillors to put pressure on officials

Posted by | Delgany, Transport | No Comments

I am pressing strongly to get this road included in the overall Council’s Capital Budget. A section, in picture, will open this year as part of a housing development currently with showhouses. All Greystones Councillors agreed to vote against the Capital Budget unless the remainder of this road is funded’. There are 3 pinch points on the current footpath, one of which will be eliminated when the road section opens this year. Another part can be widened within the existing width but the third will require purchase of land. Councillors…

Irish Rail offer little hope for Greystones on Timetable Revision

Posted by | Greystones, Transport | No Comments

Chris Rafferty  District DART Manager and Stephen Kane Timetable Planner attended Greystones Municipal District Meetingon Tuesday. They said that the new timetable, which provides 10 minute services from Bray, would probably come into operation after Easter but they were not finalised yet. The draft timetable showed trains taking 5.5 minutes extra time but they were not able to offer much hope on that. This meant that, to get to work in Dublin at 9 a Greystones person would have to get the 7.30 DART instead of the 8.00 at present….

Pedestrian Crossings. Drivers Must Stop

Posted by | Transport | No Comments

The dangerous behaviour of drivers at pedestrian crossings was discussed at Greystones Council meeting and with the Gardai. ‘I have had pedestrians complain that numerous drivers don’t stop, particularly on Church Road outside St.Patricks School and on Mill road by the tennis club. The Gardai have agreed to ask the Community Garda to check this to try to improve driver behaviour. ‘we have recently spend a lot of money improving the lighting at crossings and it is disappointing that this dangerous driving continues’.

Draft DART Timetable Changes

Posted by | Greystones, Transport, Wicklow | No Comments

To: Public Consultation TO: NTA/Irish Rail.   Draft DART Timetable Changes   I am making this submission to express my concern about the DART timetable changes for the Greystones and the Wicklow rail service. The draft timetable for 2016 shows that while there are more trains to Bray, Greystones and South Wicklow get no extra trains and the time taken will be 12% longer. To get into work at 9 in Dublin people will have to leave on the 07.30 ex Greystones instead of the 08.00 now. This timetable will…

New Delgany to Blacklion Road must be started

Posted by | Transport | No Comments

At the Greystones Municipal District meeting Councillor Derek Mitchell pressed strongly to get this road designed and built. ‘there are now 4 schools on it and the present footpaths are dangerous as they are too narrow in places. The new road with a proper footpath and cycletrack has been needed for a long time. This new road has been on the plans for 35 years and little has been done. I have been pressing for this to be built for many years and earlier voted against the Councils Capital Budget…

Mitchell Demands Progress on Footpath to Kilcoole Station

Posted by | Kilcoole, Transport | No Comments

A footpath from Kilcoole to the station is badly needed as Sea Road is narrow and heavily used. ‘I have been pressing the Council to design and fund one for many years and a design was produced last year. This needed discussion with landowners as the road is too narrow. Unfortunately work stopped on this. I have asked the Council to restart work so that we can present a plan to the National Transport Authority so they can fund it. This has been agreed and progress will be reported monthly.’

Mitchell Welcomes Bus Improvements

Posted by | Transport | No Comments

Dublin Bus has agreed to run more 145 busses from Belfield and the City Centre during the evening rush hour from this Autumn. This is to ensure that longer distance commuters can get on the 84X. I received many complaints about this during the election and Minister Harris  arranged a meeting with the CEO of Dublin Bus and Cllr McLoughlin. I am glad the CEO has listened. I think that the 84X, which provides a good fast service, should be much more frequent. The CEO has agreed to review the…

Greystones School Capacity and Location

Posted by | Education, Transport, Uncategorized | No Comments

Ruari Quinn TD, Minister for Education and Science. Dear Ruari, Greystones School Capacity and Location I think that the Department is not putting the schools in the correct locations and I also get a number of people having difficulty finding a school place. Primary. The new part of the town is in the South (Charlesland 1600 high density homes and other close by estates 800 homes). The new schools are in the North, 5.6km away. The 3 older schools in the centre have been extended, often by getting permission at…
