Council doing Study of Route for improved Delgany to Blacklion Road

Posted by | Transport | No Comments

The Council is currently studying the route for this and expects to have a report in February. This road was put on the plan in 1989 and while both ends have been made by builders no plan exists for the middle. The middle is very narrow and dangerous. The population has massively expanded and there are now 4 large schools on the road. I have been pressing for a long time for this to be improved so that children can safely cycle and walk to school and for the Redford…

Irish Rail is protecting the rail line along Greystones South beach for about 300M with steel piling and rock armour. Posted by | Transport | No Comments

Bray, with 2974 daily users, is the 2nd busiest suburban station and Greystones, 1951 users, is the 5th busiest. These are high usage figures and show how many people are dependent on the DART. Cllr Derek Mitchell said ‘The figures for Greystones are particularly high, equivalent to 11% of the population, given the limited service that operates because of the single line track from Bray’. The busiest suburban station is Dun Laoghaire, with Blackrock 3rd and Malahide 4th. The 4 Wicklow stations South of Greystones only have a few trains a day…

Hugh Creegan, Deputy CEO of the National Transport Authority met Wicklow County Council on Monday and explained and defended their Strategy to 2035 which the Council has criticised. Apart from a commitment to improve the N11 and bring the LUAS to Central Bray the plan will cause major problems. The plan to provide more DART’s to Greystones is very vague and a shuttle from there to South Wicklow even vaguer. The NTA explained that they intend to study this in more detail in 12 months. Cllr Derek Mitchell said ‘I…

Transport Plan a disaster for Wicklow

Posted by | Transport | No Comments

The Dail recently approved the Greater Dublin Area Transport Plan to 2035. The good point is that it includes very frequent, 6 minute, DARTs and the LUAS to Central Bray and major improvements in the N11 from the M50 to Ashford. It also proposes a shuttle train service from the South to Greystones to connect to the DART and a larger Park n’ Ride there. However there are no proposals for more than the current 30 minute DART service in Greystones, indeed the plan for more frequent DARTs to Bray…
