I campaigned for 22 years, together with Cllr. George Jones, to get the DART to Greystones and have continued to press for more trains. I tried to meet the Chairman of CIE about a long-term plan, unfortunately he did not agree to meet but he said that he will consider providing extra DARTs. Irish Rail have just informed us that they are hoping to provide a regular service to Greystones every half hour, at a fixed time after the hour, from October. This includes filling the current gap from 8.30…

We need to encourage more people to cycle and walk. Encouraging children to cycle to school is good for their health and independence. The cycle path from the N11, through Charlesland, to the station is good. I want to develop a series of Green routes for walking and cycling and hope to have the funds to study how to do this in 2009. Following the design stage these will be implemented over time. The cycle rack at the station in always full and I have asked for more to be…
(photo at bridge) This is a great walk but must be improved before it can be used by more people. My second priority as Cathaoirleach is to get a plan together. The rail track must be fenced off from the walking path and a path welded onto the side of 2 rail bridges for safety reasons. I have had a positive meeting with Irish Rail and The National Parks and Wildlife Service and hope to initiate a study. It will take some years to put it into place. This would…
Councillor Derek Mitchell, Cathaoirleach, Wicklow County Council, Kiltoorish, Manor Avenue, Greystones, Co. Wicklow. Phone/Fax 01-2874115(H), 087-2574969, 9th April 2009 mitchelld@ireland.com Myra Porter Greystones Town Clerk. Greystones Parking Regulations. I would like the following changes: 1. Bowling Club. A bowls match can take 4 hours and some of the people are elderly and have to carry the heavy bowls. We should facilitate them. I am told that in Bray they pay for 2 hours and with a window membership card they are allowed a further 2 hours free. I am also…
When the last Development Plan was being prepared four years ago I pushed to get this road ‘listed for improvement’. I am pleased that €370,000 has just been allocated to improve it. The section from the village to the church has been improved, strengthened and a footpath added, over the past 4 years. This money, to be spent in 2009, will allow the rest to be improved. One part is too narrow and I expect that it will be widened.
Dear Resident Following your call I put down a motion, together with Cllrs. George Jones and Grainne McLoughlin, at the recent Town Council meeting about providing a bus shelter in Charlesland. As it happened Dublin Bus attended the meeting and I raised it directly with them. They said that they had a budget this year and would install shelters in a number of different locations which we asked about. This included Charlesland. Hopefully this will now happen this year. Yours sincerely Derek Mitchell
I have raised a number of relevant issues: Roundabout. Copy of engineers reply attached. He got the wrong idea. He is going to think about it further but the issues are difficult. Pedestrian Crossings. I also asked him to consider this in view of the developments and the poor crossings to shops and bus stops. Bus Shelter. We meet Dublin Bus tonight and I am asking for one at Eden Wood stop which is busy.
The first phase of this was completed with the work on the road past Delgany Golf Club. The next phase, around Delgany National School, has also been completed. The next phase is from the school to Killincarrick including increasing the size and straightening the culvert which flooded some houses last August. The aim is to provide better pedestrian facilities, improve the poor road surface and prevent flooding. This requires purchasing some land and negotiations are ongoing. The section in front of the Delgany Inn will be done as part of…
I am strongly opposed to the present alleged expansion which has been done without planning permission. There is permission, from about 20 years ago, for use as a private airfield. There have been a number of Enforcement Actions by the Council over the years to prevent commercial use and expansion. If they want to expand they should apply for planning permission like anyone else. The Council has recently initiated Enforcement Action against the owner.
Pedestrian Access to Eden Gate/Wood is poor because of the very busy roads which must be crossed. Also the road access to Eden Gate is very poor down Priory Road. I have asked the Area Engineer to consider how both of these can be improved.
