Council approves Kilmacanoge N11 safety improvements and moves 3rd lane N/M11 scheme forward

Wicklow County Council approved the long awaited N11 safety scheme at Kilmacanoge. This will have a separated 50 kph lane from Bray South junction to Kilmac and all access/exit from premise will be from that lane. The main N11 will be separated by a raised section and posts and will have a speed limit of 80 or 100 kph. Similar to a section of the N4 at Lucan it will greatly improve safety. National Development Plan

Pleased N11 improvements from M50 to Kilmacanoge included in National Development Plan for early design in 2018 and prioritized for construction. This is vital for Wicklow. Also improved Park n’ Ride in Greystones is included. Extra rail carriages are also included and I will be lobbying for some of these to be used for Wicklow commuters following on from the paper which I wrote on providing a better rail and commuter service.

Mitchell pleased N11 works at Kilmacanoge receive Transport Ireland has allocated €100k for the fees to design and bring the Kilmacanoge Parallel Service Road to tender stage by midyear. This safety improvement will separate the traffic before the Southbound junction, similar to the N4 at Lucan. This should be complete next year or possibly this year if it goes well. Major report on N11 recommends 3 lanes to Kilmacanoge

On Tuesday, Transport Ireland released the, long awaited, report on how to improve the N11/M50. This report was started in 2014 after Ministers Simon Harris, Andrew Doyle, Cllr Derek Mitchell and John Ryan met with Leo Varadakar, then Minister for Transport. It recommends: 3 lanes from the M50 to Kilmacanoge J9. These can mostly be fitted into the space of the wide central margin. Bridge over the Dargle at Fassaroe for local traffic. Regional Body recommends M50/N11 Funding

The Eastern Regional Authority is requesting that the N11/M50 upgrade gets funding under the National Capital Plan. This upgrade is not currently funded and it is important that it is included in a review currently taking place. The Authority stretches from Louth to Wicklow so it is useful to have got them to recommend it is funded. Minister for Transport Shane Ross met a delegation from the Council who are concerned about traffic jams on the N11 and providing a better train service, in Bray Town offices today. Hugh Creegan, Deputy CEO of the National Transport Authority met Wicklow County Council on Monday and explained and defended their Strategy to 2035 which the Council has criticised. Apart from a commitment to improve the N11 and bring the LUAS to Central Bray the plan will cause major problems.
