National Development Plan

Posted by | Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

Pleased N11 improvements from M50 to Kilmacanoge included in National Development Plan for early design in 2018 and prioritized for construction. This is vital for Wicklow. Also improved Park n’ Ride in Greystones is included. Extra rail carriages are also included and I will be lobbying for some of these to be used for Wicklow commuters following on from the paper which I wrote on providing a better rail and commuter service.

Posted by | Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

The Eastern Regional Authority is requesting that the N11/M50 upgrade gets funding under the National Capital Plan. This upgrade is not currently funded and it is important that it is included in a review currently taking place. The Authority stretches from Louth to Wicklow so it is useful to have got them to recommend it is funded. I am pleased to have got them to agree as it is important to try to get outside bodies to recommend that this is done before Wicklow seizes up. The National Roads Authority…

Posted by | Transport, Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

Hugh Creegan, Deputy CEO of the National Transport Authority met Wicklow County Council on Monday and explained and defended their Strategy to 2035 which the Council has criticised. Apart from a commitment to improve the N11 and bring the LUAS to Central Bray the plan will cause major problems. The plan to provide more DART’s to Greystones is very vague and a shuttle from there to South Wicklow even vaguer. The NTA explained that they intend to study this in more detail in 12 months. Cllr Derek Mitchell said ‘I…

Transport Plan gets it wrong on Wicklow

Posted by | Transport M50/N11, Wicklow | No Comments

The recently published Draft Transport Strategy for the Dublin Region proposes that the LUAS goes to Bray which is welcome. However South of Bray the Strategy seriously understates current and future transport demand in Wicklow. Currently the roads are full and the rail line empty. The solutions planned will not work according to Cllr Derek Mitchell, Chair of the Council’s Transport Committee, who previously spent 22 years campaigning to get the DART to Greystones. ‘I counted the number of people getting on busses and trains in Greystones and it is…
