Converting first Block to a Primary Medical Centre, including a HSE facility, is great for Greystones, and a good use of this space. Cllr. Derek Mitchell said that many people have spoken to him about their concerns that the harbour will not be completed. The developers are working till midnight to complete all marine works by October 2010, only 6 months away.
At a recent Community Liaison meeting it was announced that the marine works for Greystones Harbour, including 2 Public slipways, would be completed by October 2010. These have been delayed by the swell generated by the easterly wind over the Winter. Limited access will be provided to local clubs to the completed slip over the Summer.
The December photo shows how far work has progressed with about 15 machines working on it. The marine works, including 2 public slipways, should be complete in June this year. The harbour will not open to the public this year as considerable work must be done on the land side. The walls are solid blocks protected by rocks and then antifers placed on top. Some candidates in the elections have been spreading alarm about the Visionary Project. I am confident it will be completed because: 6 Years ago I arranged that the Council would employ a top lawyer on this complex project and the selection criteria included considering the financial strength of the bidders. The Council is in a strong position because of this preparation. We expect to open the harbour, marine clubs, public slipways and public square in the Autumn 2010 and the Southern half of the hoardings will come down then. Work…
The 2,000th block (out of a total of 5,000) of the seawall was laid at Greystones Harbour on the 21st May. This marks almost the halfway point in constructing the seawall. Two shifts will be worked until midnight, over the Summer to try to complete the seawall before the Winter storms.
