Cllr Derek Mitchell welcomed the opening of the access from the harbour path to the new North Beach swimming area. This now provides much better access for walking and swimming on the North Beach. Some months ago the developers mentioned that construction of the houses would be delayed and I asked that this access would be provided across the site and I am pleased that this has now been done. The public slipway is also open and is much better than before.

The Council recently agreed to change the Plan by adding 34 houses at the North end. This was done in order to assist the developer to get NAMA to provide funding for the next phase: the Medical Centre, Public Square, 5 free clubhouses and taking down the Hoardings. The Labour Party Councillors, including Councillor Fortune, were the only ones to vote against this. Also an ex Labour Councillor, Fiachra Etchingham, is the only person to have appealed this decision to Bord Pleanala who may not give a decision by June….
An excellent harbour has now been built as Phaze 1. Phaze 2, the Medical Centre, public square, 11 apartments and 5 free clubhouses for the sailors, rowers, anglers, divers and Sea Scouts should take a year and then the hoardings can come down. Funding is required, however the Medical Centre is let to secure tenants, so this should be forthcoming provided there are no planning permission doubts. An ex Councillor Fiachra Etchingham (Labour Party) has appealed to Bord Pleanala (BP) to get them to rule that they should decide this….
At its meeting on the 6th December Wicklow County Council voted by 13 to 4 to approve changes to the layout of houses and an increase of 34 in the Greystones Harbour Plan. I welcome this as this should give added confidence and enable phase 2, the clubs, Medical Center, 11 apartments and public square be completed and the hoardings come down within 15 months.
Derek Mitchell very pleased with Harbour Open Day on Saturday. A large number of Greystones Residents visited the Open Day on Saturday morning, helped by the good weather. Sispar staff explained what was happening and the features of the harbour. I spoke to many and they were impressed by the scale of what has been achieved, though many are keen to have the hoardings down as soon as possible.
Sispar will hold an open day at Greystones New Harbour this Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. This is a chance to see what has been achieved behind the hoardings in the last 2 years. All marine works will be finished in 2010 and it is impressive to see what has been achieved. Currently much of the earth stored on top of D’Arcys field is being moved to beside the new harbour and it is quite mucky which limits the area which the public can access. However it will…
I welcome this as Greystones had been trying to get the harbour rebuilt for over a hundred years and this will create the best Community Harbour in Ireland. Tuesday nights Greystones Town Council meeting was informed by Sispar that the major work on the seawalls would be complete at the end of November 2010. Following this, construction of the Health Centre, public square and Community buildings for the Sea Scouts, Rowers, Anglers, Divers and Sailors will start in January and should be complete in December 2011. The hoardings which have…
Greystones Harbour 23rd July Showing Completed Slipway
Sispar, who are building the harbour, stated that the marine works are still on target to be completed this October and building the Medical centre will start then provided Wicklow Council vote for it in September. Completion is expected late in 2011. It is hoped to build the Public Square, Clubhouses and take down the hoardings by the same time. Because of this building it is unlikely that the marina can open until early 2012 as land access will be across the building site. Sispar is keen to add up…
It had been expected that Wicklow County Council would decide on planning permission in September for changes including the Medical Centre and the extra 34 houses. I am disappointed that Bord Pleanala has just ruled that an Environmental Impact Statement must be lodged with it and they must adjudicate on it. The Bord is very slow to make a decision and this is likely to delay the land side by a year. (the Bord took 2 years to approve the project originally and 7 months just to decide if an…
