Wicklow County Council voted, with 20 for and 3 against, on Monday to transfer land to build 358 homes to the builder who has rebuilt the wrecked harbour. In 2003 the Council agreed the plan for a Public Private Partnership where the harbour was rebuilt at no cost to the taxpayer by allowing these homes to be built mostly on reclaimed land. ‘The builder is now working fast to complete the free clubhouses for the Sea Scouts, Rowers, Divers, Sailors and Anglers and the large Public Square. Greystones Harbour Decision delayed by Council

The developer has been working fast to complete the clubhouses for the Sea Scouts, Anglers, Divers, Rowers and Sailors and other public facilities. The Council, at the request of Cllr Jennifer Whitmore, postponed a decision on the transfer of land even though it was informed this would delay the scheme and that it was obliged by contract to transfer it. ‘I am keen to get the harbour finished ASAP as there have been too many delays already. I hope this will only be a months delay’ said Cllr Derek Mitchell.

Next Tuesday the Greystones Councillors are meeting with Sisk and the marina operators to discuss progress on the harbour site following a positive discussion between the Councillors 2 weeks before. I want the project finished but even if a date for overall completion can’t be given I will be strongly pressing them to build the Clubhouses for the rowers, divers, Sea Scouts, sailors and anglers next as they provide important facilities for youths. I want a date when these will be finished. Completing the Clubs and Coastguard building will enable work…

Mitchell asks Sisk for better landscaping at Greystones Harbour

Posted by | Harbour | No Comments

The developers have agreed to improve the appearance of the harbour area and to open the North Pier next Summer. They also stated that they expect to start building by June 2014. However I asked them to do away with all the fencing on the public square and to improve the landscaping on the fenced area and they have not agreed to this. I have written again to them and asked them to landscape inside the fence for at least one metre width and to use trees in planters, which…

Mitchell pleased Sisk have agreed to implement most of Harbour Plan

Posted by | Harbour | No Comments

Sisk attended Tuesday nights Town Council meeting and agreed to open up most of the Public Square and the North Wall of the new harbour. This will provide much better public facilities though the Square will be smaller than I had hoped. In July I put a 5 point plan to Sisk and some of these points were implemented in July and I am pleased that the remainder are now to be implemented. The opening of the public square will depend on planting and the growing of grass and bushes…
