Short Term Proposals: Trains & DART Ensure all DARTs at peak hour services are increased to 8 cars. Complete Jacobs Engineering study on more DARTs to Greystones and indicate how a 20 minute DART service to Greystones can be introduced. Park an extra DART in Greystones overnight to facilitate the morning rush hour. Run 1 extra diesel service south of Greystones at the peak hour as per Iarnrod Eireann’s Rail Capacity Study 2011 and provide additional off peak shuttle service. Ensure that all peak hour diesels have 8 cars as…

Mitchell pleased N11 Improvement & Safety funding for 2019

Posted by | Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has announced funding of €2m for the Kilmacanoge safety scheme which I hope can be completed in 2019. This will provide a separate slower lane, Southbound, for exiting and business traffic similar to the Lucan Road and should enable an increase in through traffic speed. They have also allocated €1m to the design process for the major improvement works from Bray North to Coyne’s Cross. This recently started with the public consultation session in the Glenview Hotel.  ‘I have been lobbying for this for many years am…

The consultants who have recently been appointed to redesign the M11/N11 from Bray North junction to Coynes Cross are holding a consultation session from 12 noon to 8 pm in the Glenview Hotel on Tuesday 11th December. The public and interested parties are invited to give information and find out about the stages ahead. ‘I welcome this progress as I have been lobbying to get this started for many years including meeting Leo Varadkar TD, now Taoiseach, 4 times to lobby for it. This is vital for all East Wicklow. However…

Council approves Kilmacanoge N11 safety improvements and moves 3rd lane N/M11 scheme forward

Posted by | Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

Wicklow County Council approved the long awaited N11 safety scheme at Kilmacanoge. This will have a separated 50 kph lane from Bray South junction to Kilmac and all access/exit from premise will be from that lane. The main N11 will be separated by a raised section and posts and will have a speed limit of 80 or 100 kph. Similar to a section of the N4 at Lucan it will greatly improve safety. Costing €2.5m work should start this year and be complete in a year. It will involve 2…

Opening wider footpath at St. Laurence’s School

Posted by | Community Facilities, Wicklow | No Comments

This improvement to widen the road and footpath is badly needed. Previously trucks mounted the narrow pavement when passing which was very dangerous for pedestrians walking to school. We need to encourage walking to school and this wider road and proper path will help. We now need to widen the road the remainder of the way in order to provide for people walking & cycling to the 4 large schools on it, something which has been planned for many years.

Mitchell objects to harbour house design changes.

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

The developer of the harbour houses has proposed changes which mean they now propose to overlook Mt. Haven behind the railway line. I have objected as Mount Haven Residents were previously assured they would not be overlooked. I expect the harbour houses will be altered. I have also asked that provision would be made for occasional camping, by laying down service pipes, for special authorised marine events such as Rowing & Sailing Regattas and Sea Scouts events.

Work on La Touche Hotel finally starts

Posted by | Community Facilities | No Comments

The developer has finally started work turning it into 22 new houses and 5 tall terraced houses in the old shell. The site has been derelict and an eyesore for 15 years so it is good to see progress. ‘It will be disruptive for those living and working next to it but it does need doing’. The new houses will be timber frame and be made mostly off site and craned into place. This is quicker and less disruptive than traditional construction. Overall it is expected to take 18 months…

Mitchell welcomes many more new schools for Wicklow

Posted by | Community Facilities, Wicklow | No Comments

Cllr Derek Mitchell, Cathaoirleach of Greystones District, welcomed the announcement of 4 new schools for Wicklow. I especially welcome the new Secondary school for Greystones & Kilcoole which I expect to be on the site zoned for this 15 years ago in Charlesland. Councillors deliberately zoned it so that it is next to excellent sports facilities including a running track, 5 a side pitches, tennis courts and a junior baseball diamond. ‘Rarely has a school been built next to such good public sports facilities’. It is targeted to open in…
