Government criticised for long delays in Rent Supplement Approvals

Posted by | Community Facilities, Local Work, Priorities | No Comments

People who need Rent Supplement to provide themselves with rental accommodation are having to wait over 16 weeks for this to be approved. This is a ridiculous delay as those who need this, have no money for accommodation. I am aware of a family who is waiting this long and I asked Billy Timmins TD to ask the Minister for Health about it. The HSE replied that a Centralised unit was set up for Wicklow in December 09 and there was a large delay but extra staff were being assigned…

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour, Local Business, Local Work | 6 Comments

Sispar, who are building the harbour, stated that the marine works are still on target to be completed this October and building the Medical centre will start then provided Wicklow Council vote for it in September. Completion is expected late in 2011. It is hoped to build the Public Square, Clubhouses and take down the hoardings by the same time. Because of this building it is unlikely that the marina can open until early 2012 as land access will be across the building site. Sispar is keen to add up…

Building at Greystones Harbour delayed by Bord Pleanala

Posted by | Harbour, Local Work | No Comments

It had been expected that Wicklow County Council would decide on planning permission in September for changes including the Medical Centre and the extra 34 houses. I am disappointed that Bord Pleanala has just ruled that an Environmental Impact Statement must be lodged with it and they must adjudicate on it. The Bord is very slow to make a decision and this is likely to delay the land side by a year. (the Bord took 2 years to approve the project originally and 7 months just to decide if an…

Richard Bruton should be FG leader.

Posted by | Priorities, Uncategorized | No Comments

I believe that Richard Bruton should be the FG leader.. The next election will be fought on who is best to get us out of the economic hole that FF has got us into. He has the most credibility on economic matters of any TD in the Dail. I have immense respect for Enda Kenny and for the hard work he has put in revitalising FG but many people tell me they don’t like him as leader. As politicians we must listen to peoples views.

6 outdoor staff of Wicklow County Council have recently retired and not been replaced because of the recruitment embargo. This is affecting the maintenance of public spaces such as flowerbeds, parks, and roadside edges. The remaining staff are concentrating on keeping the beach and central area tidy in order to maintain Blue Flag status for the beach. The Tidy Towns Group is trying to get the town tidy before the judging takes place in June. There have been a number of FAS schemes in Greystones which did very useful work…

Cllr. Derek Mitchell’s welcomes Medical Centre and Harbour Progress

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones, Harbour, Local Work, Priorities | No Comments

Converting first Block to a Primary Medical Centre, including a HSE facility, is great for Greystones, and a good use of this space. The developer will complete all marine work by October 2010 and after 110 years of trying to get the harbour sorted out this is great news! The developer wants to add 34 homes at the North end taking up 3 acres of the Public Park which will then be 13 acres. The Area Plan has 375 homes but Bord Pleanala took out a block in the now…

Greystones Harbour Facilities Delayed

Posted by | Harbour | No Comments

At a recent Community Liaison meeting it was announced that the marine works for Greystones Harbour, including 2 Public slipways, would be completed by October 2010. These have been delayed by the swell generated by the easterly wind over the Winter. Limited access will be provided to local clubs to the completed slip over the Summer.
