Greystones harbour. Council writes to NAMA urging quick decision.

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

Greystones Town Council is to write to NAMA urging them to make an urgent decision to fund the next stage of the harbour PPP so that the hoardings can come down as soon as possible. Cllr Derek Mitchell (FG) said that ‘it is in the interest of the town to get the hoardings down and the HSE Primary Care medical facility open quickly. Phaze 2 should cover its costs and allow the market for apartments to be tested and thus be in NAMAs interest. A quick decision is needed.’ The…

Restored Access to North Beach Welcomed

Posted by | Harbour, Local Work | No Comments

Cllr Derek Mitchell welcomed the opening of the access from the harbour path to the new North Beach swimming area. This now provides much better access for walking and swimming on the North Beach. Some months ago the developers mentioned that construction of the houses would be delayed and I asked that this access would be provided across the site and I am pleased that this has now been done. The public slipway is also open and is much better than before.

Concern at Charlesland Pedestrian Lights not working

Posted by | Charlesland/Eden Gate, Local Work | 2,076 Comments

Cllr Derek Mitchell expressed concern that the pedestrian lights beside the swimming pool have not been working for many months. This is a busy crossing and pedestrians are having trouble crossing the road safely. The problem is that the road has not been taken over by the Council and the developer is responsible even though Charlesland has been completed for five years. The Council is trying to take it over but is waiting for the lights to be fixed and surface water problems addressed. The Council will have a final…

Greystones Main Street in bits

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

The road maintenance budget cuts for 2011 was discussed at Mondays Council meeting. The Government has seriously cut road maintenance grants when the roads have suffered badly in the snow. Greystones main street, Church Road, is in bits with disintegrating speed bumps and large potholes. These are especially bad at the edges which makes it difficult to cycle. We need to encourage cycling to get people out of cars. I asked that a budget is found to repair what is the main street of the second largest town in the…

At its meeting on the 6th December Wicklow County Council voted by 13 to 4 to approve changes to the layout of houses and an increase of 34 in the Greystones Harbour Plan. I welcome this as this should give added confidence and enable phase 2, the clubs, Medical Center, 11 apartments and public square be completed and the hoardings come down within 15 months.

Derek Mitchell urges Residents to visit Harbour Open Day on Saturday

Posted by | Harbour, Local Work, Priorities | No Comments

Sispar will hold an open day at Greystones New Harbour this Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. This is a chance to see what has been achieved behind the hoardings in the last 2 years. All marine works will be finished in 2010 and it is impressive to see what has been achieved. Currently much of the earth stored on top of D’Arcys field is being moved to beside the new harbour and it is quite mucky which limits the area which the public can access. However it will…

Parking for LUAS should have been provided at Loughlinstown.

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Transport M50/N11 | No Comments

Press Release Crazy that LUAS extension has no Parking. Should be provided at Loughlinstown It is crazy that the just opened LUAS extension to Cherrywood has no place to park. Motorists must go to the overcrowded Park n’ Ride at Sandyford!! I took the LUAS on Sunday and was amazed at the lack of parking, which is very bad planning. The Luas should have gone a couple of 100 metres more South across the old rail bridge at Loughlinstown where a Park and Ride should have been provided on state…

Cllr Mitchell objects to Increased usage of Newcastle Airport.

Press Release Newcastle Aerodrome should not be expanded without limits to noise I have objected to Planning Permission to turn Agricultural Sheds into aircraft hangers as this will allow a major increase in noise and disturbance to residents. The Aerodrome has permission for use as a private one arising from use before it needed planning permission.
