They also intend to use the old bank for commercial purposes and to redevelop 1,000 m2 of commercial space behind the frontages of 2 houses on Marine Terrace. Irish Water brings benefits to Greystones/Delgany where the previous system failed

Posted by | Delgany, Greystones | No Comments

At Wicklow County Council’s debate on Irish Water many Councillors wanted to abolish Irish Water. Cllr Derek Mitchell said the previous system failed as the most important thing was to have water in the taps. Every Spring the water was turned off in Greystones/Delgany most evenings for a month creating hardship for business and households. Irish Water has now approved the funds for the installation of a large pump to fill the reservoir in Blackberry Lane and provided one on Bellvue Hill to provide water pressure to higher houses which…

Mitchell Demands Progress on Footpath to Kilcoole Station

Posted by | Kilcoole, Transport | No Comments

A footpath from Kilcoole to the station is badly needed as Sea Road is narrow and heavily used. ‘I have been pressing the Council to design and fund one for many years and a design was produced last year. This needed discussion with landowners as the road is too narrow. Unfortunately work stopped on this. I have asked the Council to restart work so that we can present a plan to the National Transport Authority so they can fund it. This has been agreed and progress will be reported monthly.’

Harbour-Community Clubs should be Built next.

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

Next Tuesday the Greystones Councillors are meeting with Sisk and the marina operators to discuss progress on the harbour site following a positive discussion between the Councillors 2 weeks before. I want the project finished but even if a date for overall completion can’t be given I will be strongly pressing them to build the Clubhouses for the rowers, divers, Sea Scouts, sailors and anglers next as they provide important facilities for youths. I want a date when these will be finished. Completing the Clubs and Coastguard building will enable work…

Cllr Derek Mitchell, who is Chairman of Wicklow’s Transportation and Environment Committee, has been lobbying to get an upgrade of the M50/N11 included in the Department of Transports Statement of Strategy for the next 3 years. ‘the traffic congestion on this overloaded section of road hinders job creation and is very frustrating for the residents of East Wicklow’ ‘I have been trying to get this upgrade done for some years and met the previous Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar, last December. Greystones Harbour – Fishermen

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

The one person fishing from Greystones Harbour before it closed has been significantly disadvantaged. He should have got facilities 2 years ago when it was reopened after being rebuilt. I have been calling for this but nothing was done. A number of other people have been claiming to be local fishermen but none has a fishing licence (a Certificate of Registry for Sea Fishing Boat) as there is only one in the area. Without one it is illegal to land and sell fish. So they could not have been fishing…

Greystones Must Avoid the Smell and mess of a fishing port

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

There have been protests by Greystones fishermen complaining there is no place for them in the new harbour. There was only one full time fisherman using the old harbour in the years before it was closed. I have asked that fish landing facilities should be provided for him and expect this can be done. Part time anglers have much better facilities than before. We must avoid the stench that comes from fishing boats in and around Wicklow Port. Greystones harbour is small and because it does not have a river…
