Coastguard Station in Greystones postponed

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

The coastguard have told Wicklow County Council that ‘it is deemed no longer viable to pursue the development at this site due to lack of funding in meeting the requirements’. ‘I am very annoyed the Coastguard say it is not viable to build the station at this site in Greystones. The Council has given them a valuable site specially constructed on the new pier and built a special slipway for them. It is incredible that after 12 years of discussions, planning and building the harbour they pull out. I gather…

Mitchell demands roads are improved before Lidl store is expanded

Posted by | Greystones, Local Business, Transport | No Comments

Cllr Derek Mitchell has objected to the planning application by Lidl to expand their store in Greystones. ‘the traffic in the Blacklion area is very congested, some people tell me it can take an hour to get from Hillside to Bray, and the long delayed plans to improve the roads must be completed before this store expands and adds extra traffic’. The Council has been planning the Blacklion to Delgany Road since 1989 but it is a long way from completion. Also planned for many years are improvements to the…

Irish Rail offer little hope for Greystones on Timetable Revision

Posted by | Greystones, Transport | No Comments

Chris Rafferty  District DART Manager and Stephen Kane Timetable Planner attended Greystones Municipal District Meetingon Tuesday. They said that the new timetable, which provides 10 minute services from Bray, would probably come into operation after Easter but they were not finalised yet. The draft timetable showed trains taking 5.5 minutes extra time but they were not able to offer much hope on that. This meant that, to get to work in Dublin at 9 a Greystones person would have to get the 7.30 DART instead of the 8.00 at present….

Draft DART Timetable Changes

Posted by | Greystones, Transport, Wicklow | No Comments

To: Public Consultation TO: NTA/Irish Rail.   Draft DART Timetable Changes   I am making this submission to express my concern about the DART timetable changes for the Greystones and the Wicklow rail service. The draft timetable for 2016 shows that while there are more trains to Bray, Greystones and South Wicklow get no extra trains and the time taken will be 12% longer. To get into work at 9 in Dublin people will have to leave on the 07.30 ex Greystones instead of the 08.00 now. This timetable will…

Mitchell welcomes progress on Greystones harbour

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

The clubhouses for the Sea Scouts, Sailors, Divers, Anglers and Rowers are nearly complete and will be handed over to the clubs for final finishing in early December. I also notice that long hours, including weekend work, are being worked on the large public square. I anticipate that this will be open before next Summer. Agreement has recently been reached between Sisk, who have built the harbour, and Targeted Investment Opportunities which allows the buildings to be developed. Preliminary works have started on 60 houses, north of the existing Sailing…

Mitchell complains Greystones Area starved of Funds

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

I have done an analysis of spending by Wicklow County Council and found that 3 of the 5 Municipal Districts spend 60% more per resident than Greystones, the remaining one spends 25% more. It’s no wonder that the footpaths, roads, parks and house maintenance are poor in Greystones. This is particularly annoying considering that Greystones and Bray contribute most of the Local Property Tax in the County. This tax is being transferred to other areas and not spent where it is earned. I am calling for an equal amount of…

La Touche Hotel, third minor design change.

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

Early this year the developer submitted a plan to develop 26 houses, including 5 within the shell of the old hotel. The Council requested a number of design changes to reduce the impact on the Architectural Conservation Area and more recently some to provide better footpaths. The developer has made some changes including the provision of 50 bike parking spaces. The Council is due to make a decision by the 22nd September. ‘I objected to some aspects but these have been changed and now we need progress on this prominent but derelict…

Council to improve Burnaby Park, Greystones

Posted by | Greystones, Press Release | No Comments

The Greystones Municipal Councillors decided on Tuesday how to spend the once off fund for local improvements which has resulted from the Non Principle Private Residence tax collected:   In Burnaby Park the surface of the central path is to be improved and lighting is to be provided. Most Zebra Pedestrian crossings in the area are to have improved lighting to make them safer. This will be similar to the lighting on the ones in Kilcoole and Killincarrick. Better surfaces will be provided on the pedestrian paths in Newcastle Park and next…
