Wicklow County Council approved the Greystones, Kilcoole and Delgany Development Plan at its Monday meeting. Part of the County Managers recommendations was to rezone Stylebawn House, a Protected Structure, in the centre of Delgany for extra housing and some shops. This was rejected by the Councillors and it has reverted to its previous low density zoning. Also Councillors voted to remove any possibility of shopping development on the large IDA site. ‘I was very against shops there as I felt it would result in vacant shops in the centre of…

Sispar the constructors of the harbour are due to come to a meeting of the Town Council at the end of July. The marina is a great success but we have been promised that the Primary Health Centre will start construction each month for the past 18 months but nothing has happened. The HSE has signed up for this some time ago and I have asked Sispar to explain what has caused this continuous delay. If construction has not started by the end of 2013 I am calling on them…

Dear Fiachra, As explained to you my priorities, which I have informed Sispar in relation to the annual review, are: Get the marina properly open. Start the Health Centre. The photographs show the first visiting fleet of yachts being welcomed to the new Greystones Harbour by the Mayor, Cllr Kathleen Kelleher and Cllr. Derek Mitchell.10 yachts from Howth, with about 30 people on board, spent Saturday night the 20th moored on the pontoons. They presented the flag of Howth Yacht Club to the Mayor and said they enjoyed the marina and found the town attractive. Cllr Mitchell said this shows how Greystones is now on the marine map of Ireland as a destination and boats will come from many…
Councillor Derek Mitchell welcomed the arrival of the barge which will pile the steel poles to hold the marina pontoons in place. The pictures show it driving off the beach and onto the barge which has been pushed into place by motor boats. Piling will take most of March and the marina is planned to open in April.
The opening of this marina will provide excellent safe berthing for locals and visitors and will be a major boost to the town. Unlike many harbours it can be entered at all stages of the tide which is an important advantage. Many people expressed interest in berths at a meeting early in 2012 and I expect that at least 70 spaces will be taken in 2013. ‘It will also bring many visitors as boat owners keep asking me when they can visit Greystones’ said Cllr Derek Mitchell. Greystones Harbour currently…
Press Release Greystones harbour progress welcomed Greystones Town Council was informed on Tuesday that construction of the Primary Care Centre, at the harbour, would begin in January 2013. It had been hoped that this would start at some earlier dates but it was delayed by there being so many parties to agree and funding issues. However the statement from Sispar has said these are now cleared. This is great news for health reasons but also because the building will give a finished appearance to the Public Square at the harbour….
Press Release Greystones Coastguard Station Delay Tuesday’s meeting of Greystones Town Council was told that the CoastGuard station would be delayed. In July The Minister for Public Works, Brian Hayes, T.D. had agreed to invite tenders this year on the basis that funding would be available in 2013. However funding is not now available in 2013 and the tendering will be delayed. ‘I am very disappointed by this further delay as the OPW have wasted 3 years in pointless bureaucratic procedures’. The meeting was also told that the Primary Health…
Today Sisk announced that it has agreed with its partners Park Developments and their bankers NAMA that Sisk will take ownership and control of this project. Originally developed in partnership, the substantial structure has been completed and part opened to the public recently. The land side of the development has stalled with the financial crisis and with NAMA’s involvement.
On Monday Wicklow County Council approved the two new cycle lanes from the Harbour to the South Beach and one from the Harbour to the North entrance to the town. These provide cycle lanes, improved footpaths and road surfaces. There is also a roundabout at Blacklion to replace the traffic lights and this is expected to reduce traffic congestion. Following some requests by Councillors at the last Town Council meeting changes were made including some extra parking at Blacklion. The section along the seafront to the harbour is funded and…
