Draft DART Timetable Changes

Posted by | Greystones, Transport, Wicklow | No Comments

To: Public Consultation TO: NTA/Irish Rail.   Draft DART Timetable Changes   I am making this submission to express my concern about the DART timetable changes for the Greystones and the Wicklow rail service. The draft timetable for 2016 shows that while there are more trains to Bray, Greystones and South Wicklow get no extra trains and the time taken will be 12% longer. To get into work at 9 in Dublin people will have to leave on the 07.30 ex Greystones instead of the 08.00 now. This timetable will…

Mitchell welcomes progress on Greystones harbour

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

The clubhouses for the Sea Scouts, Sailors, Divers, Anglers and Rowers are nearly complete and will be handed over to the clubs for final finishing in early December. I also notice that long hours, including weekend work, are being worked on the large public square. I anticipate that this will be open before next Summer. Agreement has recently been reached between Sisk, who have built the harbour, and Targeted Investment Opportunities which allows the buildings to be developed. Preliminary works have started on 60 houses, north of the existing Sailing…

Mitchell complains Greystones Area starved of Funds

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

I have done an analysis of spending by Wicklow County Council and found that 3 of the 5 Municipal Districts spend 60% more per resident than Greystones, the remaining one spends 25% more. It’s no wonder that the footpaths, roads, parks and house maintenance are poor in Greystones. This is particularly annoying considering that Greystones and Bray contribute most of the Local Property Tax in the County. This tax is being transferred to other areas and not spent where it is earned. I am calling for an equal amount of…

La Touche Hotel, third minor design change.

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

Early this year the developer submitted a plan to develop 26 houses, including 5 within the shell of the old hotel. The Council requested a number of design changes to reduce the impact on the Architectural Conservation Area and more recently some to provide better footpaths. The developer has made some changes including the provision of 50 bike parking spaces. The Council is due to make a decision by the 22nd September. ‘I objected to some aspects but these have been changed and now we need progress on this prominent but derelict…

Council to improve Burnaby Park, Greystones

Posted by | Greystones, Press Release | No Comments

The Greystones Municipal Councillors decided on Tuesday how to spend the once off fund for local improvements which has resulted from the Non Principle Private Residence tax collected:   In Burnaby Park the surface of the central path is to be improved and lighting is to be provided. Most Zebra Pedestrian crossings in the area are to have improved lighting to make them safer. This will be similar to the lighting on the ones in Kilcoole and Killincarrick. Better surfaces will be provided on the pedestrian paths in Newcastle Park and next…

Mitchell protests at Greystones Projects being excluded from Council’s Capital Spending

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

On Monday 27th April Wicklow County Council passed the Capital Spending Plans for the next 3 years. Of the €58m of projects listed only a miniscule €182k or .3 % was for the Greystones/Kilcoole area even though we have 20% of the population. 50% is to be spent in Bray and 23% in the Arklow area. ‘I voted against this discrimination and was disappointed no other Councillor voted against. Area Councillors need to get behind efforts to demand a proper budget for the area. Greystones is the fastest expanding area and we…

Council asks for a partial redesign of La Touche Hotel housing plan

Posted by | Greystones, Wicklow | No Comments

Wicklow County Council has asked for 13 points of further information about the planning application for 26 houses on the site of the La Touche Hotel. In effect this is a request for a partial redesign within the Architectural Conservation Area.  They welcome the retention of the historic building but are concerned that the sea side new buildings dominate the Hotel, adjoining buildings and the walk from the Harbour. The Council has also requested footpath, parking and other improvements in the design. Cllr. Derek Mitchell said ‘I objected to this…

Mitchell objects to La Touche redevelopment

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work | No Comments

Cllr. Derek Mitchell said ‘The La Touche Hotel has been a very prominent derelict site for over 10 years and it needs to be redeveloped. However the present plan, for 26 mostly tall houses, is too near Cliff Road, on the sea side, too tall and hides the old structure. It would be much better if a curved terrace was built on the sea side, more in character with the old hotel. I have objected to these aspects of this plan and would urge other concerned people to object before…

Greystones Harbour work restarts

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work | No Comments

Work has started this week to build the clubhouses for the 5 clubs. The Sea Scouts, Rowers, Sailors, Divers and Anglers will receive free clubhouses from the developer, Sisk, with completion expected at the end of this year (photo). The temporary boat compounds are now being moved to allow laying underground pipes and a permanent surface prior to the boats moving back in mid summer. ‘it is great to see progress again and this will be a boost to marine and youth activity in the town. No other town in…
