Charlesland Bus Shelter arrives eventually

Posted by | Charlesland/Eden Gate, Local Work, Transport M50/N11 | 752 Comments

Dublin Bus has eventually installed a bus shelter in Charlesland. Both the Town Council and myself have been pressing for one for well over 5 years. Charlesland, with 1550 homes, is the largest private estate in Ireland and has been occupied for 10 years. We need to encourage people to use public transport and there is something wrong with the system that this simple and inexpensive task takes so long. Charlesland is also not on the list to receive a real time bus information sign. Such a large estate should…

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones, Harbour, Local Business | 11 Comments

NAMA has replied to Greystones Town Council and stated that they are currently discussing funding for Phase 2 with the developer. While they give no indication of a decision they ‘are expecting that the matter will be brought to a conclusion within weeks’. The letter was in reply to a letter from the Town Council which was also pursued by Ann Ferris T.D. I am pleased that this is being brought to a conclusion after some years of delay and hope for a favourable decision so that construction can start…

Irish Rail to erect Kilcoole Fence but leave Bridge Open

Posted by | Kilcoole, Transport M50/N11 | 1,371 Comments

Irish Rail have confirmed that when erecting a safety fence at Kilcoole they will leave a gap, with swing gates, so pedestrians can cross. ‘Originally they were going to close the Breeches Bridge to pedestrians which would have cut the attractive walk from Greystones to Wicklow Town. I have been discussing this with Irish Rail engineers for some time and they have now agreed to leave it open with gates and instructions for the train to whistle and slow’. This will be temporary and they will design a separate walkway,…

Charlesland And Kilcoole left out of Bus Information System

Posted by | Charlesland/Eden Gate, Kilcoole, Transport M50/N11 | 1,358 Comments

Bus information signs which give the time to arrival of the next 4 busses are to be live in a number of locations including 3 in Greystones and 7 in Bray and a number of more rural places. However Kilcoole and Charlesland have been left out in spite of my demanding signs earlier in the year. In the recent Census Kilcoole was one of the fastest growing towns in Ireland and Charlesland is the second largest private estate. They must have higher usage figures than many places allocated these signs….

Final Greystones Harbour Plan welcomed Having consulted with the community Sispar has produced their final plan for September and are currently implementing it. This provides the best public boat launching facilities in Ireland even in this temporary solution. There is also good walking access to the area and South Pier together with car parking and green areas. To construct the Health Centre safely the hoardings at the North end will remain but the large green area there should open in a year. The South hoardings will be taken down. I…

Greystones Harbour Plan, Good feedback

Posted by | Greystones, Harbour | No Comments

The developers met Harbour Users and the wider Consultation Group last night (Tuesday) representing about 25 different groups in the town. Sispar have amended their plan to deal with some earlier consultation issues, reducing the parking area and providing a green area. Some spaces will now be for parking boat trailers. They also hope to open the permanent green area South of the Health Centre in about 10 months as construction permits.   Most groups were very pleased with the facilities provided especially the Boat Users. A number of suggestions…
