Greystones Harbour – Fishermen

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

The one person fishing from Greystones Harbour before it closed has been significantly disadvantaged. He should have got facilities 2 years ago when it was reopened after being rebuilt. I have been calling for this but nothing was done. A number of other people have been claiming to be local fishermen but none has a fishing licence (a Certificate of Registry for Sea Fishing Boat) as there is only one in the area. Without one it is illegal to land and sell fish. So they could not have been fishing…

Greystones Must Avoid the Smell and mess of a fishing port

Posted by | Greystones | No Comments

There have been protests by Greystones fishermen complaining there is no place for them in the new harbour. There was only one full time fisherman using the old harbour in the years before it was closed. I have asked that fish landing facilities should be provided for him and expect this can be done. Part time anglers have much better facilities than before. We must avoid the stench that comes from fishing boats in and around Wicklow Port. Greystones harbour is small and because it does not have a river…

Wicklow victimised by Water Cuts

Posted by | Press Release, Wicklow | No Comments

Press Release Wicklow victimised by Water Cuts   The water shortage should be evenly spread over the Greater Dublin Region. At present quite a number of houses at higher level have no water in Delgany and Kilmacanoge while Greystones is cut off at night. This is because algae growth at the treatment plant at Roundwood has reduced the amount of treated water. Most of the water from Wicklow is supplied to Dublin which has had no cutbacks. This is Wicklow’s water we should have first priority or at a very…

Mitchell Welcomes Delgany and Killincarrick Road and Footpath Restoration

Posted by | Community Facilities, Delgany | No Comments

The road and footpath from Delgany Wood to Killincarrick are in very poor condition and I have been pressing for years to get them improved. Walking to school needs to be made safer to cut down car usage. Finally the Council has agreed to restore the surface of this stretch of road and put in a wider footpath which is height separated from the road. Major changes to the busy roundabouts at Killincarrick are also being made this Summer mainly to provide Zebra Pedestrian Crossings. I very much welcome these…

Wicklow County Manager, Eddie Sheehy, told Monday meeting that he had applied to get 100 part time people from this scheme. Nationally 3,000 unemployed people are to work 19 hours a week working on Community projects for Councils.
