New DART timetable produces worse service to Greystones.

Posted by | Bus/Train | No Comments

Following many complaints from Residents I checked the performance of Greystones rush hour DARTs yesterday the 12th September. The morning rush hour services and most evening ones were on time and DARTs were 8 cars long. However the early evening train was only 4 cars and was very delayed. Many Greystones people could not get on and were left behind or had  a very crushed journey. There are no extra Greystones trains and it is essential all rush hour ones are 8 cars. I have written to the Chief Executive of…

The National Transport Authority is interested in implementing this and has asked Jacobs Engineering to check it in detail and see if it is feasible. ‘I met the Investment Director of the NTA and pointed out to him, on the DART, how I think it can be done. The consultant was supposed to be there but his flight was cancelled. However he will be fully briefed by the NTA’ said Cllr Mitchell. ‘I…

Whale Theatre, Greystones 26th July. Attendance 95 Newcastle, 7th August, Attendance 45 Kilcoole, 8th August. Attendance 40 Many points were raised but in general it was felt Bus Connects produces a better bus service for the area. Some points directly relevant to Bus Connects which should be changed: Considerable concern in Kilpeddar/Willow Grove that the bus will not serve. I think that it should still go through, Northbound (201 route), as it only will add about 2 minutes to the journey. Deletion of the 2 84x services outside peak. This…

DART reliability to Greystones and replacement Bus Service: Improvement Needed

Posted by | Bus/Train | No Comments

Letter to: Chief Executive, Irish Rail Chief Executive, Dublin Bus, Chief Executive, NTA. Dear Sirs, DART reliability to Greystones and replacement Bus Service: Improvement Needed The Greystones DART is less reliable than the rest of the system due to issues such as; routine signalling problems, rock falls, suicides, timing & coordination issues on the single track. It is however heavily used, the 5th busiest suburban station, in spite of the limited number of trains. This is due to being the Southern terminus, large growth in area, having a large park…

Irish Rail refuses extra Wicklow/Wexford train

Posted by | Bus/Train, Press Release | No Comments

Irish Rails Acting Chief Executive, Jim Meade, has written to Wicklow County Council refusing to run an extra rush hour train. Councillor Derek Mitchell said ‘The N11 is jammed and the rail line virtually empty because of the poor service. For example Carlow, has 4 times as many people using the train as Wicklow even though it is well outside the Dublin area and also on a single line track’. At Cllr Mitchell’s suggestion the Council was asked: to lobby transport authorities to ensure that 8 of the carriages resulting…

Mitchell launches a Plan to improve Rail & Commuter Transport in Wicklow

Posted by | Bus/Train, Greystones, Transport | No Comments

Cllr Derek Mitchell has written a detailed paper proposing a tripling of train capacity on the Wicklow line by providing; an extra diesel service at peak hours; increasing the number of carriages from 4 to 8 and providing an extra DART from Greystones. Also express buses on the N11 from Arklow with Park n’ Ride & cycle parking there, Wicklow Town, Newtown, Kilpeddar and Glenview. These should copy the successful 84x and use the M11 and bus lanes into Dublin. Some should also go, at peak hours, to Sandyford and…
