Risk of power cuts due to Green Party policy

Posted by | Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

Eamon Ryan, Green Party, Minister for Energy has done nothing to avert threatened power cuts in the next 2 years. Other countries have done lots including getting long term gas contracts. Holland has got a floating regasification plant connected within 7 months, Germany will have 2 by Christmas. In contrast Ireland has spent a year preparing a paper which does not consider many likely problems such as: ·       Pipelines blown up and out of action for a year, only 30 days considered. To repair the pipes blown up in the…

Wicklow leaves Local Property Tax the same as last year

Posted by | Local Work, Press Release, Wicklow | No Comments

Councillors voted 23 to 9 to leave the LPT the same as last year. This is to include funds of €208,000 for footpath repairs and Public Realm improvements for each Municipal District. This is a fair way, based on population, of splitting funding unlike the main budget where Greystones receives a very small share. This is funded by the 6%, over base rate of the LPT, the same as last year. The average LPT is expected to decrease €5 to €360 next year. I am also asking that some funding…

Greystones park needs improvement

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

Dr Ryan Park, between Delgany & Greystones needs a big makeover to make it more attractive. There is broken glass around the woods. It needs to be made more visible with lights, gorse & scrub cut back, large trees maintained, bins. The site should be very attractive with views of the Great & Little Sugar Loaf, Bray Head, the town & sea. I put down a motion to improve it at Greystones District but was told due to outdoor & engineering staff shortages nothing can be done at present. This…

Park N’ Ride sites on N11 very welcome

Posted by | Local Work, Press Release, Wicklow | No Comments

The NTA informed Wicklow Council that it is proposing to build 3 large Park N’ Ride sites on the N11 so motorists can park and get commuter buses. They  are hoping to apply for some planning permissions within 6 months. The bus routes will be worked out later as the sites will take some time to build. The main destinations expected are UCD, Sandyford Industrial Estate and Dun Laoghaire.  This will be great for commuters as they can use buses instead of driving cars. If a reasonably competitive journey time…

Greystones Street Cleaning machine unused for some years as no staff to use it!!.

Posted by | Uncategorized | No Comments

The lack of staff to cope with the rapid growth was discussed at Tuesdays District Meeting. ‘This has resulted in a Street Cleaning machine remaining in the depot, unused for several years, because there are no staff to drive it even though management say we now have more drivers. That is ludicrous. Staff are less than half every other area all of which have a similar population. Lots of maintenance work is not being done and there is a lack of engineering staff to cope with facilities needed to cope…

Government needs system of saving energy this Winter.

Posted by | Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

Many EU countries have introduced measures, months ago, to cut down on energy use this Winter as a result of the Russian War. We urgently need to cut energy use as electricity & gas will be short in peak periods. The current proposals concentrate on drastically cutting use by major employers. These are Irelands major exporters which our prosperity depends on and many have continuous processes which cannot be easily stopped & restarted. There is a need for other users to cut down especially when there is a potential shortage…

Census 2022 Results show major growth in Greystones district and low funding.

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

The preliminary Census results show Greystones Municipal District has increased population by 4,041 to 30,352, a 15% increase since 2016. Wicklow County has increased by 9%, the Greystones increase being 31% of the total, increasing Greystones from 18 to 20% of the County’s population. This population growth was discussed at Tuesdays Municipal District meeting. Census 2022 also shows the population of Greystones-Delgany 405 short of 2028 target of 21,727. At least 1,000 houses are being built now and I expect Greystones will overshoot its 2028 target by at least 2,000…

Census 2022 shows large growth of Greystones, more services needed

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release, Wicklow | No Comments

The preliminary Census results show Greystones District has increased population by 4,041, a 15% increase since the 2016 Census. Wicklow County has increased by 9%, the Greystones increase being 31% of the total, increasing Greystones from 18 to 20% of the County’s population. Greystones share of the budget has remained at 12% for at least the last 5 years. It is by far the lowest spend of any area and it is not increasing with the population. Increasing population needs more resources. The Outdoor Staff are less than half that…

Delgany Development Refused permission

Posted by | Delgany, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

Wicklow County Council has refused permission for 99 houses and apartments on land zoned for 12 homes at Stylebawn in Delgany Valley. It was refused because of too many houses, too much destruction of trees and site alteration, the increased risk of flooding of the Three Trout Stream, poor apartment design and not adequate protection of Stylebawn House which is a Protected Structure. I objected to this for the above reasons and am glad it has been refused. I would like the developer to apply for a much lesser development…

Greystones Council Budget way lower than other areas

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

I have analysed the Councils 2022 Budget and found, once again, that Greystones is being used as a ‘Cash Cow’: Greystones receives 40% less expenditure than any other of the 5 areas. €190 spent per person as against €369 in the West and €288 on average. I will not be voting for the overall budget unless moves are made to correct this. Management have justified this in the past saying some years are up and some down. A 5 years analysis shows this is wrong, the underfunding is consistent. Also stated the…
