Codling & Dublin Array Windfarms win auction. Concern Visual impact.

Posted by | Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

Thursdays announcement of this brings sustainable power closer and is welcome. However I am concerned that the 2 windfarms are planned to meet off Greystones giving a wall of turbines, taller than Bray Head, covering most of the sea horizon 10 to 12 km offshore. This is far more than any other place, 115 degrees arc of view. I want to see a gap of at least 30 degrees arc of view left between windfarms so each appears separate reducing the visual impact. For the last 3 years I have…

Chapel Road, Greystones upgrade taking too long, since 1989!

Posted by | Bus/Train, Greystones, Local Work, Press Release, Transport | No Comments

This upgrade will provide a better road, with a cycle & foot path on either side from Delgany to Blacklion. It will join 5 schools with the many new houses in that area. This important link was put on the plans in 1989 and I have been pressing for completion for a decade. Sections have been done as part of housing developments but the Council remainder section seems to be taking forever. I asked for it to be on the agenda recently and was told it still had to be…

Bus times to Dublin Airport from Greystones as long as from Belfast!

Posted by | Bus/Train, Greystones, Local Work, Press Release, Transport | No Comments

We need to encourage people to take Aircoach to Dublin Airport instead of the car. The TFI app shows that it takes 1hr 39 mins from Greystones. Also as it goes through very congested parts of Dublin so one has to allow extra time when catching a plane. The bus used to be much quicker & more reliable when it went across the Toll bridge directly to the Airport Tunnel. Many have transferred from the bus to the car because of this, the opposite of what needs to be achieved. Dublin…

Council approves funding for Dr. Ryan Park, Chapel Road & Greystones Enterprise Centre

Posted by | Community Facilities, Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

The County Council has approved the 3 year Capital Investment Plan. I’m delighted that it includes a budget of €50,000 for improvement works to Dr. Ryan Park which has been neglected for decades and has anti-social issues. It should be an attractive location. The Chapel Road, Greystones cycle & road scheme is included at €16m, which is badly needed to cope with the many new houses west of Greystones. Also included is an indicative €8m for the partially built Enterprise Centre/Hub near Hawkins Wood. Greystones has virtually the lowest percentage…

This is the first scheme in the country & the first of 142 are now occupied. ‘Greystones/Delgany is doing its bit for housing shortfall. We are now over our 2028 population target!! Greystones needs an Artistic hub

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

There are many interested in creative arts and it needs to be fostered in the rapidly growing community. A group of well-known artists has  proposed a multifunctional space for artistic expression such as workshops, education, an exhibition and gallery facility, creative programming and engagement with the community. This would provide a valuable resource for artists and the general public for many arts and crafts disciplines. ‘I would like to see this happen and I think it would fit in well on the hotel site. It could potentially provide a working…

Wicklow Council needs to retain more Local Property Tax because of growth

Posted by | Local Work, Press Release, Wicklow | No Comments

Wicklow Council spends the 3rd lowest amount per person of all Councils. Partly this is because Councils with the fastest expanding population get little extra funds, However there is a complex calculation which effectively  has taken the Property Tax from the new homes and paid it to Central Government. This Baseline calculation is being reviewed now and Cllr Derek Mitchell has made a submission to adjust the calculation so Wicklow gets to keep all the LPT. Much more funding is needed to support the new residents who are living at…

Cairn seek permission to delete Community Centre in Archer Wood

Posted by | Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

Cairn are just finishing the 426 home Archers Wood at Priory Road in Delgany. The Planning permission provides a 325 sq m Community Centre building. Cairn have now applied for permission not to build it and to replace it with much cheaper Outdoor Gym equipment. I am objecting to this application, 23/131, as Community facilities are badly needed. Most facilities are in the East whereas most recent development is in the West. In justifying Cairns proposal they list 8 Community Facilities as being adequate. None are in Delgany. 2 are…

New Housing Estates left without crèches

Posted by | Greystones, Local Work, Press Release | No Comments

New housing estates have to have a certain number of crèche spaces depending on their size. However developers are leaving building them till last and house buyers have to go elsewhere to get a place which is awkward for them and adds to traffic congestion. Glenheron in Greystones, built by Cairn, has been occupied for 5 years but the crèche has not been built, never mind opened. The children will be past the crèche stage by the time it is opened! This is not fair on parents who both have…

Confusion & Delay on N11 Upgrade, Reinstate Funding Now

Posted by | Press Release, Wicklow | No Comments

Minister for Transport Eatmon Ryan postponed work on the N11 upgrade for 2022 & 2023. This would have provided a proper priority for buses, doubling the public transport mode share from Arklow & other Wicklow places. An Interim Bus only priority scheme was then pursued expecting it just needed painting white lines on the road. This has been worked on by consultants and even a partial bus lane is now projected to cost €112m! Also the Interim plan will hinder the proper separation of crossing traffic, buses, cycles & cars…
