The Kilcoole Plan was recently finalized and I intend to press to ensure that proper facilities are provided: Children’s Playground I worked hard to ensure that the Plan provided for a Children’s Playground and small Public Park on Sea Road/LottLane. We were very involved in getting the playgrounds in Greystones and Newcastle. Both of these have worked well. The landowner has generously agreed to donate an acre for this. This site has some archaeological issues which will take time to resolve. We are pushing the Council to work with the…

This is well used but is owned by the Golf Club. I negotiated with them to improve it jointly with the Council. This is now paved and much better. The little used one at Pavillion Road was closed, as it was a source of anti-social behaviour.
The planning rules provide for a minimum plot size of a quarter of an acre and a ban on apartments in the Old Burnaby. The ban on apartments was initially removed when the last Development Plan was being prepared but I demanded and got it reinstated. I supported the area becoming an Architectural Conservation Area in this Plan. I am very keen that the atmosphere of the Burnaby is maintained and think that the planning rules have succeeded in doing this over some time. I worked as a Committee Member…
The Delgany Community Council held a meeting in the Wicklow Arms on Tuesday night to press for Heritage village status. Over 50 people attended and discussed the features which should be protected and how to go about it. I think that Delgany is attractive and that the atmosphere and character of the buildings and streets should be preserved. I am happy to assist the Delgany Community Council try to get Heritage Village Status. 11 items are listed for preservation and the village already is an Architectural Conservation Area. and we…
I support the aim of making Delgany a Heritage Village. The Delgany By Pass has been on the plans for 25 years. I pushed to get it started and it should be complete in 2009. The completion of the R762 footpath and traffic calming works is being done in stages and the third stage will be completed in 2009.
Greystones won the award for the most livable community in the world, under 20,000 people at a UN competition held in China. Congratulations to Cllr Grainne McLoughlin who initiated and led the bid for the award.
I wrote a paper on providing an Enterprise Centre and it was agreed that a developer was to donate one in Charlesland. He was also to donate a site for a recycling centre but both of these are on hold because of the recession. I intend to push for these if re-elected
There are large traffic jams on this in both directions at rush hour because the road is carrying 1.75 times the amount it was designed for. I am concerned that it will seize up. Nobody was paying any attention to this. During my year as Cathaoirleach I have raised this many times and think that it is now a project which will get studied when funding improves. There is a draft plan to build a new large town (7,000 people, 16,000 jobs)!! at Fassaroe. I opposed this plan unless the…
I campaigned for 22 years, together with Cllr. George Jones, to get the DART to Greystones and have continued to press for more trains. I tried to meet the Chairman of CIE about a long-term plan, unfortunately he did not agree to meet but he said that he will consider providing extra DARTs. Irish Rail have just informed us that they are hoping to provide a regular service to Greystones every half hour, at a fixed time after the hour, from October. This includes filling the current gap from 8.30…
