Transport Plan a disaster for Wicklow

The Dail recently approved the Greater Dublin Area Transport Plan to 2035. The good point is that it includes very frequent, 6 minute, DARTs and the LUAS to Central Bray and major improvements in the N11 from the M50 to Ashford. It also proposes a shuttle train service from the South to Greystones to connect to the DART and a larger Park n’ Ride there.

However there are no proposals for more than the current 30 minute DART service in Greystones, indeed the plan for more frequent DARTs to Bray will increase the journey time by 12%. All this will overload that service unless there are extra DARTs to Greystones.

’This is central to improving public transport in Wicklow and I submitted a way of doing this but it has been ignored’.

The plan has ignored putting the LUAS to the new town and jobs area in Fassaroe and does little to improve bus services to the County. The plan also seems to allow little job creation. ‘We urgently need jobs in Wicklow to stop commuting on the overcrowded N11 and the Transport Plan should be supporting this not hindering it’. Wicklow County Council discussed this and are going to try to meet the Minister for Transport.
